Japanese gov gave up giving free medical care for Fukushima children

Japanese prime minister Noda decided not to give free medical care for Fukushima children thought they were preparing for the request of Fukushima local government. The reason is because they don’t have enough budget.
The current cabinet estimate it to be about 10 billion yen, but they were afraid it might be increased. They also assumed it would be difficult to collect doctors to want to go to Fukushima.
The headquarters of re-construction center also talks, that would be unfair for other prefectures to give free medical care even just to normal cold.

福島の子の医療費無料化を断念　首相、財源困難と判断

野田佳彦首相は、福島県内の１８歳以下の医療費無料化を断念する方針を固めた。福島県からの要請を受けて検討する考えを表明していたが、財源確保が難しいと判断した。近く県側に伝える。

東京電力福島第一原発事故の影響で子どもの放射線被曝（ひばく）への懸念が強まっており、福島県の佐藤雄平知事が無料化を求めていた。県外への人口流出を防ぐねらいもある。首相は今月８日に福島県を訪れた際、「政府内でしっかり検討したい」と表明していた。

野田政権は必要な経費を年間１００億円弱と試算したが、医療費が膨らむ可能性も指摘されていた。政権内で検討した結果、無料化で増える受診に対応する医師の確保が新たな問題点として浮上。福島県外の住民との公平性からも難しいと判断した。復興対策本部の幹部は「額はそれほど大きくないが、風邪などの医療費も含めて福島だけ無料にする説明がつきにくい」と話す。
