NRA reports “Marine soil contamination stretches S-W to N-E” / N-E from Fukushima plant is Alaska

NRA’s marine soil survey report. It clearly shows the offshore contamination spreads from South-West to North-East on both of the map of 2012 and 2013. However, it doesn’t show how far the contamination spread toward the Pacific.

NRA only mentions the marine soil contamination toward Japan (Green line). Their report equally suggests the contamination spread toward Alaska (Red line), however their survey ends only 32km offshore Fukushima nuclear plant.

The marine soil contamination stretches in the direction toward Alaska. However, it can’t be confirmed that it reached that far because NRA’s survey is very limited.

On 6/13/2014, NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) released the report on marine soil contamination in the Pacific.

In the survey conducted from the end of 2013, NRA found marine soil contamination is worse beyond 20km offshore area than 10km offshore area.

They concluded “the contamination spreads from 20km area in South-West direction (Japanese coastal area) due to the lutaceous seabed”. In this area, a few hundreds Bq/Kg level of Cs-137 is distributed.

However they surveyed only up to approx. 32km offshore.

Their report obviously shows the high level of contamination equally spreads from South-West to North-East. NRA only mentions the contamination in South-West direction, and covered up the contamination in North-East direction by not surveying over 32km area.

There is Alaska in far North-East of Fukushima nuclear plant. Fukushima Diary hasn’t found the report on marine soil further than 32km offshore, however it would be high priority where / how the marine soil contamination spreads in the Pacific.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
