Professor “cardiac insufficiency significantly increased after 311, it wasn’t seen after other great earthquakes”

Prof. Shimokawa from Department of Cardiovascular Medicine Tohoku University graduate school of Medicine commented significant increase of cardiac insufficiency was reported in Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima after 311 and the reason is not known. It was mentioned in the greeting of the 16th annual scientific meeting of the Japanese heart failure society held from 11/30 to 12/2/2012.


Tohoku university hospital was in the middle of the disaster area. We medically made our best for the restoration, but we saw the significant increase of cardiac insufficiency patients.
As we had the discussion about that in the emergency symposium held by Mr. Tei, the chairman of academical meeting of cardiac insufficiency (2011), the increase of cardiac insufficiency was seen in Iwate and Fukushima prefectures in common.
The increase of cardiovascular disease such as acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, Takotsubo cardiomyopathy and severe arrhythmia etc were reported, but increase of cardiac insufficiency has never been reported after past great earthquakes.
It will be a very important theme of the medical care for the future disaster to identify the reason why cardiac insufficiency increased after 311.
The academic meeting decided the main theme as “For the restoration after 311”, the sub theme as “How to cope with the pandemic of cardiac insufficiency“.

Shimokawa du Département de Médecine Cardiovasculaire de l’Université de Médecine de Tohoku : “Il y a une augmentation significative des insuffisances cardiaques dans les préfectures de Miyagi, Iwate et Fukushima depuis le 11-3 et les raisons n’en sont pas connues. C’était mentionné dans les minutes des 16e  rencontres annuelles scientifiques de la Japanese Heart Failure Society qui se sont tenues du 30 novembre au 2 décembre 2012.


L’hôpital de l’université de Tohoku était au milieu de la zone dévastée. Nous avons fait de notre mieux pour rétablir la situation mais nous avons remarque l’augmentation significative du nombre de patients porteurs d’insuffisances cardiaques.
Alors que nous avions une discussion à ce sujet au cours du symposium d’urgence organisé par M. Tei, le président du congrès academique sur les insuffisances cardiaques (2011), l’augmentation des insuffisances cardiaques était en général constatée dans les préfectures d’Iwate et de Fukushima.
L’augmentation des maladies cardiovasculaires telles que l’infarctus aigu, les embolies pulmonaires, la myopathie de Takotsubo, les sévères arythmies, etc., était constatée mais l’augmentation des insuffisances cardiaques n’a jamais été rapportée après les grands séismes du passé.
Ce sera un sujet très important des soins médicaux des prochaines catastrophes pour identifier la raison pour laquelle les insuffisances cardiaques ont augmenté après le 11-3.
Les rencontres académiques avaient intitulé leur thème principal “Pour le rétablissement après le 11-3”, le sous-thème était “Comment gérer la pandémie des insuffisances cardiaques“.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
