[Sea contamination] West coast of North American continent will be most contaminated 10 years later

GEOMAR, Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel released model simulations on the long-term dispersal of Cs-137 released into the Pacific Ocean off Fukushima on 7/6/2012.

According to their simulation, West coast of North American continent will be the most contaminated by Cs-137 in 10 years.

  2. This should be considered a best case scenario, as it assumes no further catastrophy at TEPCO’s Fukushima plant, no new nuclear meltdowns in Japan, no nuclear accidents in China’s growing collection of nuclear plants, and that San Onofre surprises everyone who’s watching it and doesn’t have its own big accident.

    1. Hi Anon,

It does not take into consideration the un-disclosed nuke accidents that happen in the US. Pittsburg Post Gazette, July 3, 2012…published today on (nuclear-news.net)…90 Pennsylvania Cancer Victims Bring Lawsuit Against Nuclear Power Plant Operators. Not to mention all the other toxins that we are exposed to every days; nor the death of the Gulf of Mexico. The seafood that survived is being sold in restaurants to those who are convinced that the danger is past.

      1. Michele –

We must shut them down. There is no future in nuclear power.

We must stand up to the nuclear village and stop them.

  3. This simulation also takes in to account only the initial release.
So it only shows, how the initial release will contaminate US coast

  4. Yes, I also wonder if undisclosed nuke tests and nuke waste dumping from Los Alomos, UC etc. won’t mae for a dangerous combination as new cesium comes across the Pacific.

I put up a page on the topic on N. Pacific Fukushima contamination here –

… as I think more science articleswill come out. Since nws is suppressed I can make them easier to find.

  5. No problem as we will all likely be dead or dying by then anyway. We have had a great run on this rock but it may very well be time for most of us to go away. Thank you TEPCO and Japanese government, you are true heroes of humanity. Money is so great isn’t it? It was all worth it!

No worries though! In another few billion years or so some other intelligent species will appear and likely rule the world in a similar (but hopefully better) fashion than we did.

  6. I’m hoping this research was from an outside source and not connected w/ gov.,Tepco or NRC in any way. I find it interesting there is no mention of Cs-134.
or is this only another half truth?

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
