[Fukushima children] “Doctor couldn’t count all the thyroid cysts of my daughter”

Mr. Ian Thomas Ash‘s great report about family in Fukushima.

This morning I met Mrs. Shima.  She had invited several other mothers over to her home to share with me their situations and the thyroid test results for their children.  Mrs. Shima showed me the thyroid ultrasound for her daughter Shuri, 11.  The government-sponsored test revealed her daughter had NO thyroid cysts, but she went to a private hospital to seek a second opinion.  She was told her daughter in fact DOES have thyroid cysts.  In both tests, it was discovered that her son also has thyroid cysts.

Mrs. Oyama worries for her son Yoshihiki, 11.  Her daughter Nozomi, 17, has been found to have thyroid cysts.

Mrs. Kanno’s two children, daughter Yuika, 10, and son Naoki, 11, were both found to have no thyroid cysts in the government-sponsored test.  When she went to the private hospital Mrs. Shima recommended for a second opinion, she was told that the hospital had received a directive from the national government to stop providing tests for children it had deemed had no thyroid cysts.  Mrs. Kanno was refused a second thyroid test for her children.

Mrs. Tsuda’s son Naoki, 11, has thyroid cysts.  Her daughter Yuika, 10, has so many thyroid cysts the doctor could not count them all (!). (Note by Fukushima Diary : Her thyroid looks swollen as well.)

<Citazione> [documenting ian, blog]

<Citation> [documenting ian, blog]

Ce matin j’ai rencontré Mme. Shima.

I lived in Niigata until April 2012 and I was found with a tyroid cyst last year in December. I think lots of people around Fukushima and in Fukushima have them but do not know about them. Note: I got tested outside Japan. But,a famous hospital in Japan (west Japan) game me the same results afterwards. Note again: I haven’t even been in Niigata during the eathquake, and I stayed outside Japan for one month after the earthquake.

  2. Lizzy says:

Please move to Holland and live here. Its not save in Japan anymore. I wish you people the best. Please move to a save country with less radiation. We had fallout from Chernobyl in 1986 but its still better living here then in Japan. Japan isn’t safe anymore these days.

  3. Integrator says:

Multiple small cysts in thyroid is a sign of radiation-induced thyroid inflammation which indicates “moderate” dose of I-131. Such cysts most likely are the areas of dead thyroid tissue, killed by I-131.
Clinically significant nodules are began at 1cm size or larger.
