Child helpline of Fukushima got 5000 calls only in one month

Late August, helpline for children was opened in Koriyama city for the first time in Fukushima prefecture.

On their press conference of 11/5/2012, they announced they received more than 5,000 phone calls in one month though they are open only from 16:00 to 21:00 of every Wednesday. Only 20% of the calls were responded.

All of the phone calls are from Fukushima prefecture, most of the cases are about the anxiety of radiation and inconvenient lives in temporary dwellings.

20 staff are working but there’s only one phone line. When the line is busy or out of business, the phone calls are transfered to 45 other call centers in Miyagi and all around in Japan. However they commented all of the call centers are always busy and they have numbers of phone calls from Fukushima prefecture. Measures must be taken.

Can you please put up the link to the email for Fukushima local government so that people can directly send a complaint about this gross negligence directly to them.
Also put up a Petition or Protest site on change.org or ANY international petition site, so that people can sign it to support the families in Japan get the medical treatment they need.
If you can’t do this, then I will put one up tomorrow morning and put links to these articles. It is against the Human Rights of Japanese people to be denied medical treatment, especially for children, their parents are worried sick already, the risks are real and have to be taken seriously by the government. Denial is totally unacceptable.
    Cheers Helen

  3. Dear Helen and everyone,

Please see the link below where you can sign the petitions to support 1) Fukushima Collective Evacuation Trial and 2) Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Plaintiffs. The second one in particular is to lend support for those people in Fukushima who courageously filed charges against TEPCO and the Japanese government, as well as Mr. Yamashita, current health advisor in Fukushima. This petition to the Fukushima Prosecutor’s Office has been started in response to a call for support by the plaintiff group in Fukushima, to let them know that the whole world is watching to make sure that those responsible for the disaster will be held to account. The first deadline is November 12, 2012. Please spread the word, and thank you! Keiko
