[Tritium spread] 310,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium detected in the forest of downstream from 300m3 leakage tank

According to Tepco, high level of Tritium (310,000 Bq/m3) was measured in the groundwater of the forest.

The forest is located in the east of the tank area that experienced 300m3 leakage. It’s also located in the west of the groundwater bypass wells.

Detecting high level of Tritium between the leaked tank and the groundwater bypass wells suggests leaked Tritium is traveling toward the wells with groundwater stream.

On 9/13/2013, Tepco’s vice president admitted Tritium met groundwater flow. At this moment, they have no clue to stop the Tritium penetration.

Selon Tepco, une haute radioactivité en tritium (310 000 Bq/m³) a été relevée dans les eaux souterraines de ce bois.

Le bois es situé à l’Est de la zone des citernes où a eu lui la fuite des 300 m³. Il est également à l’Ouest des puits de dérivation (donc “avant” la dérivation).
La détection d’une forte radioactivité en tritium entre la citerne de la fuite et les puits de dérivation des eaux souterraines suggère que le tritium de la fuite se dirige vers les puits par le courant des eaux souterraines.

Le 13 septembre 2013, Le vice-président de Tepco avait reconnu que le tritium avait rejoint les eaux souterraines. A ce moment-là, ils n’avaient aucune idée de comment arrêter l’infiltration du tritium. (cf. Le vice président de Tepco : “Le tritium est certainement parti dans les eaux souterraines”)

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.


September 2013
