Tepco not to investigate nor take countermeasures for reactor3 “steam” anymore

On 9/26/2013, Tepco announced they abandoned investigating the “steam” from reactor3 anymore. They were assuming it may be the evaporated rainwater or PCV gas, but the reason is not identified yet.

Tepco commented the dust sampling data around the “steam” doesn’t show the significant increase of radiation level. They won’t investigate the origin of the “steam” nor take any countermeasures anymore.

  1. In my country we have a saying, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” It means worrying can be more harmful than the problem itself. It may work for small problems but this is not a small problem. This is like driving the wrong way on a busy highway and thinking nothing bad can happen.

  2. The origin of the steam seems like a fairly important issue. Steam indicates water is being boiled or heated to very near the boiling point at least so it would seem important to me to know what is causing the heat in light of the radiated materials on site.

  3. Did TEPCO lie on July 26,2013?

“If the generation of the steam is found along with the debris removal work, we will check the plant parameter and the monitoring post readings.”

TEPCO Press Releases 2013 – Press Release (Jul 26,2013)

Steam Found Near the Central Part of the Fifth Floor (Equipment Storage Pool Side) of Unit 3 Reactor Building at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Follow-up Information 14). This is a follow-up report on the statuses of steam found wafting through the air near the central part of the fifth floor (equipment storage pool side) of Unit 3 on July 18.

We are regularly performing assessment by measuring dose and dust in each point at the site including the upper part of Unit Reactor Building. If the generation of the steam is found along with the debris removal work, we will check the plant parameter and the monitoring post readings.

    1. More pointedly,

TEPCO continues to exist in NAME ONLY. TEPCO and the operations at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant are entirely controlled by the Japan Government. This has been the case for some time now.

Did Japan lie on July 26,2013?

Or perhaps the translation was not accurate? Or perhaps the words have gained different meanings since Summer.

      Sincerely,

      Bill Duff

  4. Iori Sensei,

If you have time and can email me I’d like to ask a question (not on this particular topic.) I can’t find an email for you or I would contact you directly. Thanks.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
