Thyroid nodule and cyst found from 57% of children outside of Fukushima, MOE “Higher than Fukushima”

According to Ministry of the Environment, thyroid nodule and cyst were measured from 56.6 % of the children in Aomori, Yamanashi and Nagasaki. [URL 1]

They concluded it proves the thyroid problem rate in Fukushima is lower than other areas. These thyroid problems are unlikely to be connected to Fukushima accident, which is to reassure people.

They tested 4,365 of 3 ~ 18 years old children in Hirosaki city, Kofu city and Nagasaki city, where are less contaminated than Fukushima.

The test result shows 56.6 % of the children had thyroid nodules (≦5mm) or cysts (≦20mm).
1% of them had thyroid nodules (>5.1mm) or cysts (>20.1mm).

From the latest thyroid test in Fukushima,
43.6% of the children had thyroid nodules (≦5mm) or cysts (≦20mm) and 0.6% of them had thyroid nodules (>5.1mm) or cysts (>20.1mm). [URL 2]

MOE states they are going to release detailed data, but these points are questionable.
1. How did they choose the testees ?
The testees must be chosen randomly.

2. Why did they eliminate the children of 0 ~ 2 y.o ?
The thyroid test in Fukushima include the children of 0 ~ 2 y.o and some of them were diagnosed with nodules and cysts too.

3. Why did they choose these 3 cities, Hirosaki city, Kofu city and Nagasaki city ?
They could have surveyed in Osaka or kyoto as well. There is no specific reason why they had to choose these 3 cities.

4. MOE outsourced the survey to The Japan association of breast and thyroid sonology [URL 3], but they are planning the academical meeting from 4/20 to 4/21 (About「Experience in diagnosis of thyroid diseases after Chernobyl: from pathology to ultrasound screening」etc), but the lecturers are Yamashita shunichi and Suzuki Shinichi from Fukushima Medical University. [URL 4]
Was the survey implemented independently and objectively ?

One interesting thing with this The Japan association of breast and thyroid sonology is the server of their website seems to be in Taiwan for some reason. [URL 5]

[Lien5]

This article sadens me greatly. It proves that the danger zone is much bigger than expected and they try to tell you it’s not from the reactors. Are we watching the worst crime in the history of the world unfold in front of our eyes?

  3. Nick Thabit says:

If you are concerned that the authorities will convince that there’s no connection to nuclear accident, it’s wrong; they can only make themselves look exceedingly foolish!

I will pray for these kids. Here we are fighing the nuclear also, there was just a Nuclear Whistleblowers conference http://www.ustream.tv/new/search?q=iwj-sf with emphasis on Fukushima, tomorrow there is protest and march at Japan Consulate. It’s the aggreived thing, never-ending.

Wishing your flame grows higher, in time for relief for the affected.

  4. Brawrf says:

I can answer question 2 for you.

It’s kind of hard to do any kind of research on children from 0 to 2 years old on their thyroids. Doing so might disrupt the development in infants, so you can’t test anything safely on this catagory.

If you do test infants, it’s impossible to decide wether or not the child was born with a form of cysts or tumors or if it was caused by some external event (for example, the reactor blowing up).
