The shortage of contaminated water storage has become more serious

On 12/12/2012, Fukushima Diary reported “Fukushima worker “Contaminated water might overflow due to the lack of tanks””[Link] .
The mentioned purifying system turned out to be too fragile to be used. The shortage of contaminated water storage has become more serious.

Tanks designed to hold radioactive filtrate at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant are proving too fragile to be used, and the operator has announced a further delay in starting up machinery that cleans contaminated water.
Officials said reinforcing the tanks and testing them anew will take some time, so they are unable to predict when the equipment may finally come online.
TEPCO confirmed that the vessels could sustain a fall from a height of 6 meters in an upright position. But tests found the tanks were breaking and spilling their contents when dropped on from a height of only 3 meters in an upside-down position.
The council decided that TEPCO should reinforce the vessel design and then hold more tests. TEPCO hopes to be ready to perform the tests in January.

La pénurie en espace de stockage pour l’eau contaminée s’est aggravé

Le 12/12/2012, le Fukushima Diary publiait “Le travailleur de Fukushima : L’eau contaminée pourrait déborder par manque de réservoirs” [Lien] .
Le système de purification mentionné s’est révélé trop fragile pour être utilisable. La pénurie en espace de stockage pour l’eau contaminée s’est aggravé.

Les réservoirs conçus pour stocker les eaux radioactives filtrée de la centrale N°1 de Fukushima se révèlent trop fragiles pour être utilisés et l’opérateur a annoncé un délai supplémentaire au démarrage de l’équipement chargé de nettoyer les eaux contaminées.
Les représentants ont dit que renforcer les réservoirs et les éprouver à nouveau va demander un peu de temps, donc ils ne peuvent pas prévoir quand cet équipement pourra finalement fonctionner.
TEPCO a confirmé que ces enceintes peuvent résister à une chute verticale de 6 mètres mais les tests ont montré qu’en position inversée ces réservoirs éclataient et éparpillaient leur contenu dès la hauteur de 3 mètres seulement.
Le conseil a décidé que TEPCO devrait renforcer leur conception et procéder ensuite à de nouveaux tests. TEPCO espère être prêt pour ces tests en janvier.

They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
