GOOGLE maps indicates an irrelevant power plant 50km north of actual as Fukushima nuclear plant

Photo : This wrong “Fukushima plant” that Google tells you would not affect Tokyo even if additional explosion happens because it’s over 250km from Tokyo (Actually it would).

Google maps indicates an irrelevant power plant when you search “Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station”. (English and Japanese)

This should be one of the most frequently searched locations on the internet now, but Google doesn’t list the location correctly.

Instead of the actual Fukushima plant’s location (37.42043,141.0333), what Google indicates is a thermal power station “Shinchi plant“, sponsored by Tepco and Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. It’s in approx. 50km North of actual Fukushima nuclear plant.

Both of the plants are listed as “Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station”, however the search result shows the wrong one.

The actual Fukushima nuclear plant is approx. 225 km from Tokyo in a straight line. The wrong one is approx. 260 km.

Japanese government simulated that if Reactor 4 pool is collapsed, 250 km radius area would be the evacuation zone. If based on Google maps, Tokyo would be outside of the evacuation zone.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
