[Column] Nothing in reality

I asked him why he doesn’t analyze food for tritium along with cesium-134/137.
Tritium is radioactive water. It’s really hard to remove and causes lymph related cancers etc..

He said he won’t do it because even if he measures tritium from food or tap water, he can’t do anything.

He measured a lot of food buying from supermarket, or collecting from school lunch and had influence over people. He was one of the amateur physicists whom you saw often from 2011 to mid 2012.

At that moment, I noticed he sounded scientific but he actually started from the really primitive emotion, -want to be reassured whatever the truth is.

Now Tepco is planning to discharge the retained water to the sea.
They state they will discharge only if they obtain the understanding of the local fishers but because the fishers are not always fully updated about the situation, they can be easily deceived.
The biggest lie is about this tritium.
Tepco tries to justify themselves to operate ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System), which is to remove 62 sorts of radioactive nuclides from the retained water. However, it can’t remove tritium.

Even on the assumption that the retained water does never increase for the rest of time, and they can discharge it at the highest level every single day, it would take 56 years to discharge all tritium. Actually 400 tones of underground water flows into the plant, so even this estimate is extremely unrealistic in the bad way. [URL 1]

Tepco submit the propaganda material to fishery’s association, which is to downplay the risk of tritium before publishing the material to public. Probably they will manage to get the “understanding” of the fishery association. [URL 2]

Though it’s pretty likely a significant amount of tritium is being released to the environment, even more volume of tritium will be discharged to the sea. It will evaporate into the atmosphere and come back to the land as rain. This will be the cycle to repeat for over 100 years.

2 years have passed. If you have been reading Fukushima Diary since 2011, you may know I have been persistently reporting about tritium contamination. From its difficulty to remove, it was obvious that tritium was going be the most important source of contamination.

but again, my squeaky voice was overwhelmed by the primitive emotion -not even intuition- and couldn’t change anything in reality.

I don’t feel embarrassed even if everyone thinks I’m a little “ridiculous”. I only say what logically makes sense in me. However, it tortures me to see the evil have everything on its way.

How can the average ordinary person test for tritium in the environment? In the food or water, at least?

    Iori-

What you are experiencing has been experienced by good men for thousands of years. Some of us find relief, and the wisdom of our ancestors in the Christian Bible. For example:

    Psalm 37

37:1 Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed! Do not envy evildoers!

37:2 For they will quickly dry up like grass,

    and wither away like plants.

37:3 Trust in the Lord and do what is right!

Settle in the land and maintain your integrity!

37:4 Then you will take delight in the Lord,

and he will answer your prayers.

37:5 Commit your future to the Lord!

Tritium is a beta emitter, and it is usually part of a water molecule. It is not removed because, once in a water molecule, it acts like all the other water molecules. At least it doesn’t bioaccumulate–if you get any inside you, it usually gets out again. All nuke plants that use water will make tritium, and none are required to remove it from the wastewater because it would be so expensive–might as well build solar plants or wind farms.

It’s sad if a well-equipped and independent researcher won’t measure the tritium. Facts are facts, and I’d like to know where it is to be found (outside of nuke plants).

I think tritium’s half-life is about 12 yrs…the wiki page is worthless, sadly. Thanks, Mochizuki-san, for this valuable website!

i heard the only thing it could not penetrate was gold. but that it (tritium) is extremely damaging to the cells…?

For anyone who wants back up for Lori’s excellent article, I would recommend the fact sheets from “Beyond Nuclear” This link to one of their fact sheets on Tritium is from Helen Caldicott on Nuclear Free Planet…there are a number of other articles there, as well as on Beyond Nuclear…. a case of good people combining their knowledge. http://nuclearfreeplanet.org/beyond-nuclear-fact-sheet-l-tritium-a-universal-health-threat-released-by-every-nuclear-reactor-.html Also, if I am not digressing, the symposium, The Medical and EcologicalConswequenes of the Fukushima Nuclear accident is on March 11th and 12th http://nuclearfreeplanet.org/ and the live stream link will be- http://www.totalwebcasting.com/view/?id=hcf . There is a lot about it on the nuclear free planet website.

Thank you so much June. I am so glad to have this info. I do live in NYC, but cannot afford the modest fee for the two day seminar. I will donate a small amount to them and live stream as much as I can when I am home. Also I intend to go on the March from Grand Central Station to the UN and hear people from Japan speak of what is going on there now. I really ache to be able to talk to other people about Fukushima. People who do not mind talking about it.
