However, it doesn’t look adequate to decommission 4 reactors.

(Going for 100m, coming back, then the battery needs to be recharged.)

It’s a Toshiba joke.
Joke or no joke, Japan’s fascination with robots is only false hope for this terrible situation. Robotics on large scale are only viable in manga and cinema. As in this Toshiba unit, robots can only at best photograph the situation, but can not fix it. It will take, unfortunately, human hands (and their hand controlled machines) to remove debris and fix the mechanics in these plants. TEPCO should have been nationalized on 3/12.. and put under military control.. away from politics and shareholders… and employees enlisted into the military forces…as this is a national problem equivalent to a war, not a corporate problem… very drastic situation requires drastic action. IMHO.
They may need to be amphibian too, regarding the pool of water-coolant that there’s down there round each molten fuel, underground.
Disregarding, the company doesn’t have money for affording one million of those robots (which would be needed for decommissioning.
