[Column] Possibility of seawater coming up to the plant side

High level of radiation is measured from groundwater and seawater.
Last week, the American media reported about the possibility of contamination flowing to the sea.

Probably it’s not the possibility.

However, some of the latest reports suggest another possibility, which is more untreatable.
It’s the possibility that seawater may come into the plant, and also contamination is flowing to the sea groundwater.

Long “ditches” are coming from 4 reactors to the seaside. They are called “trench”.
Significantly high level of “salt” is detected from some of them.

So far, the “salty” trench is for reactor3. Contrarily, almost no salt was detected from the trench for reactor2. It means the salt is not the present of Tsunami.
The only source of the salt is the sea.

It became clear from the investigation to the source of groundwater contamination.
The groundwater is collected from boring wells. In the latest press conference, Tepco’s spokesman confessed it’s deeper than the bottom of the sea.

Water flows from high to low. It’s natural to think the contaminated groundwater is flowing to the deeper part of the sea, which is underground of the sea.

Wrapping it all, it seems rational to think groundwater and seawater are moving back and forth as full tide repeats.
By repeating the motion of the tide, contamination is possibly moving back and forth between land and sea too.
As long as they keep injecting water to the reactors, Fukushima plant will keep being the worst contamination source of the Pacific.

Don’t be their accomplice.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
