[Column] Beyond the sense of helplessness

There are two kinds of people. One is to face the social problem. One is not to face the problem.
The latter doesn’t want to face the mortification.
When they try to fix some social problem, they find themselves more powerless than they thought they were. Try so hard and get the least.

then they choose to go home quietly.
It was a wise choice until 4 reactors exploded in Fukushima.

I was the not-to-face, but Fukushima accident changed the rule of the game.
We used to be fed with piece of bread if we stayed obediently in the cage. but now the bread is poisonous.

One day, a small fish shop was opened near my apartment in Japan. A young couple with a kid moved to a normal house, renovated the garage and put fridges.
It was right in the middle of the residential area. There was no other shops around there. Across the narrow street, there was an elementary school.
and the fish was for Sashimi, they sold the most expensive fish. The father drove to the port early in the morning to purchase fresh fish. I thought I’d have to see it closed soon.
but I was wrong. After a few weeks after the quiet opening, there were lines of the cars to come to the little fish shop. Even the driver of Fedex bought Sashimi fish for some reason.

and 311 happened. I knew I was never going to eat fish on 3/12/2011.

When I left there in December of 2011, there were still lines of the car for the shop.

I was in the school for 16 years. but none of the textbook told me what to say, what to do for the little fish shop with a 10 y.o boy after a Level.7 happened in 250km radius.

I say, we shouldn’t eat fish. and I’m worried about the fish shop. In this meaning, I don’t make sense.

I don’t know how it’s going to end. One thing that I’m sure is we must re-write the textbook.
We must re-write everything.

Don’t be their accomplice.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
