US rejected importing Japanese beef for radioactive contamination

Radioactive contamination is ruining Japanese export. More and more products are rejected by the world. However, it shows your government is still trying to save your life.

United States government rejected importing beef from Japan for radioactive contamination.

According to Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, US has been stopping the import of beef for foot and mouth disease since 2 years ago.
Because foot and mouth disease case is not reported anymore, US was supposed to restart the import of Japanese beef as of 8/18/2012.
However, American government suddenly asked Japanese government for an explanation about the safety of beef on 8/15/2012. American government is concerned about radioactive contamination of beef. They postponed to restart import until they confirm the safety of Japanese beef.

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan wants to restart the export as soon as possible, but there is no specific schedule announced.

  1. Sounds like smoke and mirrors to make it seem like they care, and then say its perfectly safe afterward. Even if it is not safe, Americans feel better about what they are eating because they are lied to by the government saying it is safe.

  3. I may be nitpicking, but all Japanese food is not contaminated. However, the reluctance of Japanese government and food producers to do tests or disclose the results lead to the reasonable conclusion that all Japanese food should be banned. It is the safest course since Japan is not a major food producer for anybody expect Japan itself.

We’re talking about exports here, with foreign partners, so the Japanese way and how Japanese do things is not important anymore. Westerners believe verifiable proofs only. Japanese companies have dismally poor communications skills (If you permit a link: http://tinyurl.com/8l8mvgv), this is hurting Japanese exports more than actual contamination levels.

Due to Sellafield, Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, so many foreign countries have already experienced what is in Japan’s future, so Japan cannot take the lead in this case. Japanese way of non-communication will never be accepted abroad. If Japan wants to continue exports, they will have to really _see_ the foreign partner.

  4. Seems like NHK has removed all traces of their report and BING and GOOGLE provide no links to it….

  5. If the beef is valuable enough to export (let’s say some Kobe beef) then it just takes a redirect. Voila! Thai beef headed for America. Not out of the realm of possibilities. They certainly relabel origin labels in intracountry shipping.

  6. Bahaa they reject beef but accept seafood which is 10x more contaminated considering the massive release of particles directly into the ocean

  7. Japan is a densely populated country and does not have the room to produce and export much beef. This is a non-issue; or smoke and mirrors like MattDiGi said.

    1. Maybe so… But they had food exports for Africa last September:

“Japan will offer an additional $21 million in food aid to four drought-hit countries on the Horn of Africa—Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba made the pledge Saturday during a ministerial mini-summit at the U.N. headquarters, Japanese media reported Sunday. The latest offer follows Japan’s $100 million pledge earlier this year to the Horn of Africa. The aid will most likely come from stockpiled supplies of rice and other products, officials were quoted as saying.”

  8. Yeah, smoke and mirrors….while still the fish as Michele says. Whatever it takes to keep the status quo and lead the lemmings off the cliff.

  9. I personally live in Texas and will eat no beef unless it’s from Texas. I also eat seafood from the gulf of mexico. I eat vegetables from all across the u.s. so I think I get a pretty varied diet. Seems healthy to me anyway.

  10. Strange, when beaf is banned, specially when U.S. is involved, governements and mass media of all countries make it the number 1 information on their agenda. And there is a big war of words, publications and also threats between countries using media to plea for them.
Now nothing, no news about this anywhere.
In this case, the U.S. said they want to check the contamination, so it is officially a delay. Still, it shows just how much mass media are controlled since this news should have normally become their n 1 international news.

  11. Because of the vast congress and agency corruption by GE and other evil companies trying to sell their HELL around the world, I am 100% sure that U.S. will not stop the importation. Unless they feel that it would be worst for the industry if American become sick by contamination and it is not possible to hide it. But that is unlikely.

  12. littlesky: Seafood from the Gulf is dangerous because of the corexit added to turn oil into miniscule size – but still both massive carcinogens.

Are you familiar with bioaccumulation and biomagnification of nuclear contaminants in the food chain, thus the reason why some of us are avoiding all seafood, animal products. Closer to vegan is usually safest, but since Fukushima fallout is ending up across North America and across the globe, safe food is becoming a more urgent issue.

from a friend: ‎1) They would have to accept the “Reference Embryo” as Radiation protection standard for studying health risks, and not the ICRP “Reference Man”. Reason: All recommendations for radiation emssion out of atomic power plants are based on a healthy mature 34 / 35 year old human. This is called REFERENCE MAN But what happens if you do not take a mature human as a default for limit values. What if you choose a HUMAN EMBRYO The answer is ZERO. This is called REFERENCE EMBRYO. Why is that? Answer http://www.llrc.org/wobblyscience/wobblysciencepage.htm

    2) Reactor Chmineys throw hundreds of millions of curies of Radionuclides into the world each year, accumulated in soil -> food -> livin beings -> fetus / children. This can not be stopped. This is the health damage- 100% and NOT a risk. It is DAMAGE. Each Second, each cell division: http://fukushima-diary.com/2011/11/slow-death/

) Internal Emitters: Nuclear fission reactors produce Internal Emitters (Radionuclides in the body) who mimic vital substances, the organism is tricked, because these radionuclides behave physically totally different, sending out gamma, alpha, beta -> The beta radiation of strontium has a range of 1 millimeter. No matter where it is installed, it reaches the stem cells with its beta radiation. From the stem cells, everything is made. So the stem cells are bombarded constantly. What are the symptoms? We received the following reports by the children of Chernobyl: Chernobyl AIDS. Symptoms of anemia with decreased number of red blood cells. A therapy resitant anemia.Vitamins and iron will not help. The ongoing hemorrhage, the bleeding e.g. from the nose. Decreased number of platelets, which are indeed involved in blood clotting. The immune system of children. They are always sick, every little infection “throws them around”. They constantly have colds, infections. And low white blood cells in the blood. This is easily explained: With a Bone marrow suppression: The bone marrow – due to the constant bombardment – and especially because of the accumulation of strontium – lost the ability to compensate. Radioactivity means selective delivery of energy. On the molecules in our body. They are tiny pinholes in the shortest possible time. But with full force. We are constantly exposed to such radiation damage each second. Every second. Permanenent. And life could not exist and the information of Life could not be passed on, if we have not developed effective repair mechanisms. But the repair mechanisms are very complex and it takes time. The shorter the life cycle of a cell, the less time remains for the repair. This explains why children with rapidly growing tissue, with rapidly dividing cells – are particularly sensitive to radiation. Mitosis.

    4) Latency is ignored by NRC. Mitosis is ignored by NRC. Internal / external radiation difference (in the order of 10 – 100) is ignored by ICRP. Children & Fetus more vunerable = Ignored by ICRP.

    5) It’s not NRC’s job to do such a study. They are not the W.H.O. (which is gagged by IAEA with contract WHA 12-40 from 1959): http://tekknorg.wordpress.com/2012/05/27/margaret-chan-versus-world-health-organisation/ What can we excpet from NRC and WHO? Nothing. Only supporting Murder.

) NRC = IAEA, on a national level. So, they design the Study this way: > If a radiation-caused cancer is not fatal, it is not counted in the IAEA’s figures

    > If a cancer is initiated by another carcenogen, but accelerated or promoted by exposure to radiation, it is not counted.

    > If an auto-immune disease or any non-cancer is caused by radiation, it is not counted.

    > Radiation-damaged embryos or foetuses which result in miscarriage or stillbirth do not count

    > A congenitally blind, deaf or malformed child whose illnesses are are radiation-related are not included in the figures because this is not genetic damage, but rather is teratogenic, and will not be passed on later to the child’s offspring.

    > Causing the genetic predisposition to breast cancer or heart disease does not count since it is not a “serious genetic disease” in the Mendelian sense.

    > Even if radiation causes a fatal cancer or serious genetic disease in a live born infant, it is discounted if the estimated radiation dose is below 100 mSv [mSv= millisievert, a measurement of radiation exposure. One hundred millsievert is the equivalent in radiation of about 100 X-Rays].

    > Even if radiation causes a lung cancer, it does not count if the person smokes — in fact whenever there is a possibility of another cause, radiation cannot be blamed.

    > If all else fails, it is possible to claim that radiation below some designated dose does not cause cancer, and then average over the whole body the radiation dose which has actually been received by one part of the body or even organ, as for instance when radio-iodine concentrates in the thyroid. This arbitrary dilution of the dose will ensure that the 100 mSv cut-off point is nowhere near reached. It is a technique used to dismiss the sickness of Gulf War veterans who inhaled small particles of ceramic uranium which stayed in their lungs for more than two years, and in their bodies for more than eight years, irradiating and damaging cells in a particular part of the body. http://ratical.org/radiation/NAvictims.html

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
