570 Bq/Kg of Iodine 131 was measured in Gunma

Following up this article..Iodine 131 measured in Kawasaki, Yokohama, Chiba and Gunma

The highest reading of Iodine 131 to suggest the possibility of recriticality was measured in the small city of Gunma called Kiryu city. (The population is 119,393 on 4/1/2012)

570 Bq/Kg of Iodine 131 was measured in Gunma

The sample was dried sewage sludge taken from 5/22 ~ 5/24/2012.

210 Bq/Kg of Iodine 131 was measured in Tamamura machi (The population is 37,277 on 4/1/2012.) as well. The sample was taken from 5/14 ~ 5/16/2012.

  1. As this was sewage this means it has already passed through life forms. Very saddening. Japan has such amazing culture it truly breaks my heart. This has to be a wake up call to all mankind.

  3. Have the people of Japan been given the Iodine supplements? Any type of vitamin C supplements or any other supplement to help when their is radiation fall out? I am assuming no, but I hope someone tells me different. Iodine-131 builds up in the thyroid and has a half life of 8 days. Lower doses are more harmful I read compared to high doses. Children are affected more severly in the thyroid than adults. But adults too can have cell damage in the thyroid and cancer later in life. Drink lots of water, lots of water because iodine-131 is excreted through urine. The bad thing about Iodine-131 is how it damages cells instantly when a person comes in contact with it. This kind of radiation is highly contagious…..if someone comes in contact with it by ingesting, skin or any other type of transfer; then a person can transfer the I-131 to another person.

  4. @Ramona – “This kind of radiation is highly contagious…..if someone comes in contact with it by ingesting, skin or any other type of transfer; then a person can transfer the I-131 to another person.”

Correct me if i’m wrong, but once internalized, i thought the only way transfer could occur was through shedded epithelials, or exchange of bodily fluid. If you are going to drink lots of water, would it not be advisable to ensure that it is not contaminated with the various other radiological substances? Some of these are notoriously difficult to filter out.

“Lower doses are more harmful I read compared to high doses”

Should this not read “Lower doses can be more harmful when internalized I read compared to high doses externally”? Bear in mind that i am no expert.

I hope that this is taken as constructive criticism. Please double-check your sources. Your life, and those you care for, may depend upon your command of facts.

  5. @Ian Meeker – “As this was sewage this means it has already passed through life forms.”
Does sewage not include at least some runoff from rainwater?
If true, this may alter your conclusion.

Let us stick to the facts at hand, they may be needed for TEPCO trial.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
