“You are making the children waste disposal!”
A mother yelled at the mayor of Yokohama city,Hayashi Fumiko.
Yokohama city government held an emergency press conference last weekend to detect hot spots around the city center.
The highest figure was over 40,000 Bq/kg,which was measured from dirt beside a street ditch.
However,9/21/2011,Yokohama city council turned down all the petitions from mothers.
Mayor of Yokohama city ,Hayashi Fumiko ignored her yelling and left the room.
The petitions were for:
- not letting students visit hot spots in North Japan for their school trip, such as Nikko etc
-
Conduct urine test for students who had cesium beef of school lunch
-
Punish city government staff who arranged contaminated food for school lunch.(Currently, domestic beef is served for school lunch but Australian beef is served for the city government’s cafeteria. )

Having released the data of hot spots,Yokohama city government has reluctantly ordered to decontaminate schools ,kindergarten and nursery school.
However, because of the crucial lack of the knowledge, staff of those institutions decontaminate even without masks and gloves.
Yesterday,a citizen detected over 100,000 Bq/kg from the dirt on the roof of a building near the center of the city. (about 10 minutes by car from my place)
Now that even secondary exposure is expected, nobody pays attention to the students in Yokohama city government.
Students are forced to march to the death.

Some people should take the dirt to government houses and offices. Then they’ll start to do something… maybe.
An organization, Yokohama No Kodomotachi o Hoshanou Kara Mamorukai (An organization to protect Yokohama children from radiation) has a member of over 850. The members of this group consists mostly of mothers with small kids.
You would not believe how Yokohama city government has been so ignorant towards trying to protect kids from radiation despite of our insistance to take immediate actions and measures.
The mothers are full of anger and we need explanation from our mayor.
So glad this news has come out in English.
[...] Radiation as high as 40,000 Bq/kg found south of Tokyo at Yokohama; [...]
