  1. adding a little story from 2day.. i had a reason to visit the local electronics 2day. im very old-fashioned & always feel 10 years behind the trend in most cases, as i generally dont like Online shopping cuz i feel Credit Cards is what ruined humanity to begin with (& also women voters as my auntie once told me.. the irony nearly killed me). anyhow i felt it was time to invest in a Geiger Counter & the store clerk i had been in touch with for some warranty-repairs told me their store had them in stock. i was amazed to hear that & couldnt resist flying out there as soon as i heard, but to my utter disappointment all they had were these ‘litmus-paper’ type radiation gauging stickers in a package.. the other clerk was helping me find them but he was acting like he didnt want me to find or buy a Geiger Counter. i told him i strongly believe Tokyo is already being ‘invaded’ by radiation & its a dire situation but i just got that blank look smirk.. the look iori-san is prolly most familiar with saying “whats this got to do with me? i just live in japan”.

i realize i could have a Geiger Counter delivered by 2mrw if i were willing to sacrifice a few more binary souls.. but today was a grand disappointment for me (i live in the outskirts of Tokyo). i ended up going to another big electronics otw home & they even treated me worse.. gave me the look like “& what would you do with a Geiger Counter?” the store before that didnt even know what a Geiger Counter was.. i had to tell him the proper japanese name & the lady looked at me like some vagrant for even asking. thus even more, i understand iori-sans frustration.. as stated in my previous comment this is all money & the fear of death.. nobody wins.

in a few weeks am planning to go into the City so i may find a better bargain there anyhow. i was lookin Online on Amazon & found some crazy discounts like with some initially costing $1400 but discounted down to $400.. stuff like that makes you wonder. if anybody recommends a certain kind of GC please do tell.. i think iori-san was stating that at some point with site donations hes planning to buy a GC himself.. i mean you got to admit Romania is close to Chernobyl as it is.. he must see japan in 20 years i suppose.

i recall back in the month of the Meltdown i remember seeing this weird green ash everywhere.. i eventually figured out it was radioactive iodine mixed with ‘yellow dust’ which is the polluted sand from the Yellow Desert in China that gets blown onto the continent. i kinda joked like thats ‘onsen no moto’ or well.. japanese ‘bath salts’ (also being aware bath-salt abusing is apparently the next kind of junky addiction.. those incidents where people eat each peoples faces off for some reason.. because u feel more powerful than Evil) trying to brush that off up to now theres alot of ‘natural’ radiation thats been commended health-wise. like all hot springs have some kind of radiation element.. radium treatment was popular for a while.. but i realized the duality as someone sarcastically commented recently that “radiation is the cure of cancer, not the cause” it really made me think its not a double-edged-sword.. but rather a light-saber.

perhaps a better way to look at a nuclear reactor is that its more of a ‘man-made volcano’. and well.. sometimes i think jumping into an active volcano must be a damn wicked way to die.. human sacrifice or not.

fact is we hear less & less of Hanford Nuclear site & more about that stupid ‘sinkhole’.. theres no bigger sink-hell than human society. that poor Chinese girl might of survived too but was apparently killed by a fire-extinguisher on wheels. & also Chernobyl just completed the worlds largest mobile dome structure to cover the doomed sarcophagus.. might be a good place to start, 6 Finger Fukushima.

Build your own, if possible. Start with the right project and you may end up with a crude spectrometer or better.

Use a Germanium pin-diode, NaI crystal and inexpensive laptop, preferrably with HD Audio for greater bandwidth. It will be limited to Gamma-photons as well though. Pin-diodes are available for X-ray detection. Where a Beta particle is suddenly slowed, it is possible for an X-ray to be emmitted. I am uncertain of a suitable target though. NaI, Gold leaf, Al foil?

I am entirely uncertain of options for Alpha detection short of using a cloud chamber.

This software is meant for Guiger-Mueller tube based detection, yet one would think it could be adapted for low-voltage detection.

        1. thx TechdudE i wasnt expecting such a scientific reply.. have noticed youre a fullon DIY guy & respect that as its the origin of what we over-consume 2day in the form of convenience. its only recently i began to truly marvel Tesla’z genius & i must admit i think he had the final formula to Free Mankind but in the end was shutdown by American glutton & greed (Edison.. the fact i have to even mention his name infuriates me) & above all the incapability to love another human being… im merely a pigeon on his shoulder. if your interested theres a hilarious internet comic artist “The Oatmeal.com” his Tesla Tribute was purrty awesome.. brought me to tears. apparently with the site donations & earnings (also at some point being the most successful online comic strip) the guy actually bought Tesla’s last laboratory in NY i think it was that was almost about to be demolished!!! havent heard what became of it since but it would be more than a reason to visit.. perhaps with that “Eternal Flame” that exists out there.

what would Nikola Tesla have to say about Nuclear Energy? that is the question. with his wizardry hed prolly create a new planet with it….

i was bit confused cuz when u add links into comment they get flushed into Moderation so i could only read your reply you posted to yourself for half a day.. tho iori-sans been makin a habit out of pulling things out of the mode-void asap these days. im a bit concerned bout his financial status & i think hes goin to have a nervous breakdown if he has to deal with toggling visa-status & perhaps inevitably end up returning to japan.. & hounded to death by his haters. i unfortunately, am nobody’z fool.

again thx for the tip but im just not capable of such creativity, other than my writing perhaps but.. u keep your guru in tune. u seem like someone whod take a Rubix Cube apart & make a windchime out of it!

i first encountered Tesla in The Prestige tbh.. wonderful movie but now that i know alot more about Tesla i could prolly not watch it ever again.

anyhow b4 i ramble just dug up some Tesla quotes some powerful words brings beauty to its kneez

“I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success… such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything.

Our virtues and our failings are inseparable, like force and matter. When they separate, man is no more.” -Nikola Tesla

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
