[Breaking] Tepco “Steam / Gas coming up from the top of reactor3, ambient dose and dust not verified”

According to Tepco, steam / gas was observed on the top of reactor3.

At 8:20 AM of 7/18/2013, a subcontract worker found steam / gas coming up from the middle of the 5th floor, where operation floor is located.

They were preparing to remove debris from the top of the reactor building.

It is right above the reactor vessel and equipment reserving pool.

The contents of gas / steam are not identified yet.

Tepco states the core is not in the critical state according to the plant parameters. The coolant system of spent fuel pool is sound.

Monitoring posts of the plant area, noble gas density, pressure and the temperature of the vessels are not showing any abnormality.

However, the atmospheric dose is not measured on the top of the building, also the dust sampling is not conducted yet.

The inspectors of Nuclear regulation authority is investigating the plant.

Tepco states the reason is not verified yet. There is a possibility that rain came into the reactor and heated by the reactor temperature.

However, it has rained countless times since 2011.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
