Spent Fuel Pool temperature rapidly dropped as PCV heated in Reactor 2

Following up this article.. A thermometer of Reactor 2 indicates a rapid increase of temperature / From 20℃ to 70℃ within 6 hours [URL]

Tepco’s plant parameter shows the temperature of SFP (Spent Fuel Pool) of Reactor 2 started dropping down exactly when a thermometer indicated the rapid increase of temperature in PCV (Primary Containment Vessel).

It is not clear what this means or what these two temperatures are related to each other. The SFP stores 587 spent fuel assemblies and 28 new fuel assemblies. Tepco hasn’t announced the detailed status of this SFP.

The temperature at 11:00 of 4/3/2015 was 27.3℃. However it dropped to 20.0 ℃ at 11:00 of 4/6/2015.

It is still in the low level, which stays 17 ℃ by 4/16/2015. No abnormality is reported to affect the credibility of this thermometer.

On the other hand, the temperature of PCV still remains higher than 65 ℃.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
