Having discharged 25,000 t of bypass contaminated water, contaminated groundwater didn’t decrease

Bypass project has not decreased contaminated groundwater flowing to the plant buildings for 3 months, Tepco admitted on 8/25/2014.

Since it started, approx. 25,000 t of contaminated water pumped from bypass wells has been discharged to the sea.

 

By last year, Tepco’s own simulation stated pumping up from bypass wells would only gather the same volume of groundwater from the surrounding area, it can’t be expected to decrease the water volume flowing to the buildings.

However Tepco managed to create a precedent for discharging contaminated water to the sea by this bypass water project. It is highly likely for them to push the neighboring fishery cooperatives to give approval for Tepco to discharge more contaminated water to the Pacific.

Tepco a reconnu le 25 août 2014 que depuis 3 mois le projet de la dérivation n’a pas fait baisser les eaux souterraines contaminées qui s’écoulent dans les bâtiments de la centrale.
Depuis qu’ils l’ont commencé, environ 25 000 tonnes d’eaux radioactives ont été pompées dans les puits de la dérivation pour être déversées dans l’océan.

Les propres simulation de Tepco de l’an dernier affirmaient que le pompage des puits de la dérivation devrait recueillir seulement le même volume d’eaux souterraines des alentours, on ne peut s’attendre à une diminution du volume d’eau inondant les bâtiments.
Néanmoins, Tepco a réussi à créer un précédent en déversant des eaux extrêmement radioactives en mer grâce au projet de dérivation. Il y a toutes les chances qu’ils poussent les coopératives de pêches voisines à donner leur accord à Tepco pour déverser encore plus d’eaux extrêmement radioactives dans le Pacifique.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
