Cabinet office of JP, “It’s impossible to predict Nankai megathrust earthquake, beyond the ability of modern science”

On 3/20/2013, Fukushima Diary reported “The potential Nankai megathrust earthquake would cause 220 trillion yen damage and 5 million evacuees [URL]”

On 5/28/2013, the researching team of Japanese cabinet office announced it’s extremely difficult to predict Nankai megathrust earthquake with a certain precision in their final report.

In case of M9.1 class of the earthquake offshore South West offshore Japan, the economical damage would be 220.3 trillion yen and 323,000 people would die, 2,382,000 buildings would be destroyed. This is 42% of the whole GDP, 10 times worse than 311.

Over 10m of Tsunami is assumed to hit 13 prefectures including Tokyo.

They stated the monitoring stations are not enough to detect all the symptomatic quakes or tremors.

The researching team concluded that the regulation of Large-Scale Earthquake Countermeasures Law is beyond the capacity of modern science.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
