Coolant water injection system of reactor1 has a trouble / Reactor1 might lose the coolant system suddenly

One of the two coolant water injection systems has a problem in reactor1. It is assumed that the system will no longer be able to inject sufficient volume of water by 2017.

 

According to Tepco, they found the system can inject only 80% of water last July. They detected the system pressure has been increasing at least since October of 2012. The reason is not verified.

If the trends continues, reactor1 will not be cooled around in 2017. However because the system pressure can increase rapidly out of the trend, reactor1 may lose the coolant system before 2017 without any notice.

 

However the radiation dose of the operation areas for alternative lines is from a few 10 mSv/h to a few 100 mSv/h, which is too high for human workers to fix those lines.

Tepco plans to use a nitrogen gas injection system for the provisional spare coolant water injection system. The fundamental solution hasn’t been found.

L’un des deux systèmes d’injection de liquide de refroidissement du réacteur 1 a eu un problème. On pense que ce système ne sera plus en mesure d’injecter suffisamment de liquide à partir de 2017.

Selon Tepco, ils ont découvert en juillet dernier que le système ne pouvait injecter que 80 % du liquide prévu. Ils ont trouvé que la pression du système augmente depuis octobre 2012. La raison ‘en est pas établie.
Si cette tendance se confirme, le réacteur 1 ne sera plus refroidi à partir de 2017 environ. Néanmoins, le réacteur 14 peut perdre son système de refroidissement avant 2017 sans prévenir parce que la pression du système peut facilement augmenter plus vite que la tendance.

Cependant, la radioactivité ambiante de la zone de travail pour les lignes de rechange s’étage entre 10 et quelques petites centaines mSv/h, ce qui est trop fort pour que des humains puissent réparer ces lignes.
Tepco prévoit d’utiliser un système d’injection d’azote gazeux comme solution provisoire. La solution définitive n’est pas encore établie.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
