[Support by eating] Fukushima food promotion shop opened in the center of Tokyo

Fukushima prefectural government opened a Fukushima food promotion shop “Midette” in Nihonbashi on 4/13/2014.

In order to fight “harmful rumor” against Fukushima products, Fukushima prefectural government collaborates with some Japanese companies such as JAL to promote their products, which include food.

On 5/22 and 5/23/2014, they distributed Fukushima milk, café au lait, and rice to the visitors for free.

  1. The way to dispel “harmful rumors” is to the let the NGOs in to do and publish their own tests.

I certainly wouldn’t trust the Japanese government enough to eat food from fukushima. They should have declared the contaminated area a nature reserve and paid the farmers to grow food for testing only.

  2. This is stupidity. As if ionizing radionuclides stop at the border checkpoint of The great Kingdom of Fukushima.
As a rule, I don’t touch anything north of Shiga, and definitely nothing from the North Pacific Ocean.
Every time it rains or snows in Gifu, or children eat Ibaraki vegetables in Okinawa…there is a risk.
If you don’t believe me, check my health in 20 years (although I have been to Minami Soma), and see if the victims are still around…

  3. Risk,

The Fukushima nuclear contamination Relative Risk decreases with time and distance. The relative risk from consuming rice, water, beef, chicken, pork and seafood decreases rapidly as the distance from Fukushima increases. Contact hazard, relative risk from dirt, water, sand and air also decrease with distance from Fukushima. And relative risk decreases as time elapses.

However, there are hazardous nuclear contamination hotspots, anomalies, accumulations and concentrations; FAR from Fukushima. These may relate to wind, rainfall and drainage patterns in Spring 2011 or subsequently. Thus there are documented Fukushima hotspots and hazards in Boise, Idaho, Boston Massachusetts and Kansas. There are hotspots scattered across the North Pacific Ocean.

The statistical likelihood of a HIGHLY contaminated single grain of rice grown in the Fukushima Exclusion Zone is MUCH higher than a single grain of rice from Okinawa or Louisiana. Certain foods, such as mushrooms and truffles, and thus wild hogs, accumulate radiation contaminants. The absolute risk will NEVER be zero. Eating Fukushima food is statistical suicide; like playing Russian Roulette.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Duff

That is the way it works.

    1. Bill Duff is a proven liar, and paid to post discrediting articles here. Doesn’t seem to matter if there is any truth in it. Ignore these l=es from this paid shill.

      1. Fuck You,

This is a Blog, not a fully documented, peer-review publication.

The simple facts are, the Lying Fucks of ‘Team Nuke’ are going down with the ship.

The pace of civilian reactor shutdowns and nations ‘taking the pledge’ are accelerating.

        Bite Me, ‘Team Nuke’

        FUVVM

        1. We all know who the liar is, Bill. You’ve no credibilit left, so move along. And anyway, how can you call me a liar, when I’ve never claimed a single thing, ever? I dust question your sources and ask for your supporting evidence. Unlike you, I’-e no particular agenda, and make no claims towards anything at all. You, on the other hand, are a dishonest shill, and are rude too, and frequently try to pass off disinformation, exaggerations and outright lies as facts.

As an example, you stated that you’ve seen phoyos showing glowing lumps of fuel lying around. When i ask you to provide a link to this, you call me a liar. What lie am I telling, mr bill duff?

          1. Quote: “when I’ve never claimed a single thing, ever?”

            Disgusting. You just did.

That should read “when I’ve never backed a single claim with any reliable evidence; not a single thing, ever.”
            There, fixed it for you.

          2. You may be an effective troll, but you are no moderator. Stop sepaking for everyone and either respectfully disagree or sod off, because if you can’t do either of these things, you lose all ‘credibility’ just like the person you keep attacking and accusing.

        2. Radiation found in Calif. Milk

By MARY CLARE JALONICK, Associated Press, Friday, April 01, 2011 12:01 AM, http www theeagle com/ ( news/nation/radiation-found-in-calif-milk/article_8697688c-9dc3-535d-9011-b7651aad7640) html

WASHINGTON — Low levels of radiation have turned up in milk samples from two West Coast states. Officials say there is no public health threat.

Traces of radioactive Iodine-131 were found in milk in California and Washington state, according to federal and state authorities who are monitoring for contamination as the nuclear crisis unfolds in Japan. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that radiation was found in a March 25 milk sample from Spokane, Wash. The California Department of Public Health said on its website that a similar result was found March 28 at a dairy farm in San Luis Obispo County.

The EPA always monitors radiation levels in the air at several sites throughout the country, but the agency said this week that it is increasing the level of nationwide monitoring of milk, precipitation and drinking water. Those substances are normally monitored for radiation only a few times a year. EPA spokesman Brendan Gilfillan said the radiation detected in Spokane is different than what is normally found there.

The EPA has found very low levels of radiation in the air connected to the Japanese incident in Alaska, Alabama, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Saipan, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and Washington state. Gilfillan said the low level of radiation most likely ended up in the milk after a cow ate grass or drank rainwater that contained it.

The California Department of Public Health has an ongoing program that checks milk for radiation levels and occasionally tests vegetables grown near power plants, said Gary Butner, chief of the department’s Radiologic Health Branch.

The United States had already halted imports of dairy products and produce from the affected area of Japan. Other foods imported from Japan, including seafood, are still being sold to the public but are screened first for radiation.

Radiation Detected In Drinking Water In 13 More US Cities, Cesium-137 In Vermont Milk

          • Unusual Reading At Chatanooga Nuclear Plant
          • Milk Contamination At EPA Maximum
          • Highest Levels Yet In Boise Rainwater

Radiation from Japan has been detected in drinking water in 13 more American cities, and cesium-137 has been found in American milk—in Montpelier, Vermont—for the first time since the Japan nuclear disaster began, according to data released by the Environmental Protection Agency late Friday.

Milk samples from Phoenix and Los Angeles contained iodine-131 at levels roughly equal to the maximum contaminant level permitted by EPA, the data shows.

The cesium-137 found in milk in Vermont is the first cesium detected in milk since the Fukushima-Daichi nuclear accident occurred last month.

Radioactive isotopes accumulate in milk after they spread through the atmosphere, fall to earth in rain or dust, and settle on vegetation, where they are ingested by grazing cattle. Iodine-131 is known to accumulate in the thyroid gland, where it can cause cancer and other thyroid diseases. Cesium-137 accumulates in the body’s soft tissues, where it increases risk of cancer, according to EPA.

Airborne contamination continues to cross the western states, the new data shows, and Boise has seen the highest concentrations of radioactive isotopes in rain so far. A rainwater sample collected in Boise on March 27 contained 390 picocures per liter of iodine-131, plus 41 of cesium-134 and 36 of cesium-137. EPA released this result for the first time yesterday. Typically several days pass between sample collection and data release because of the time required to collect, transport and analyze the samples.

      1. Radioactive Strontium Found in Hilo, Hawaii Milk

“Tests for strontium are triggered by the presence of cesium isotopes, which have been found in milk from Hilo, Montepelier VT, and Oakland and in precipitation from Boise, Richmond CA, Salt Lake City and a few other cities.”

Tech 4/27/2011 @ 8:45AM, [UPDATED 4/28: with information from FDA. Altered sentences in italics.] http www forbes com/ (sites/jeffmcmahon/2011/04/27/radioactive-strontium-found-in-hilo-hawaii-milk/)

A radioactive isotope of strontium has been detected in American milk for the first time since Japan’s nuclear disaster—in a sample from Hilo, Hawaii—the Environmental Protection Agency revealed yesterday. “We have completed our first strontium milk sample analysis and found trace amounts of strontium-89 in a milk sample from Hilo, Hawaii,” EPA said in a statement emailed to me yesterday afternoon. EPA posted the test result at epa.gov in a pdf.

The two man-made isotopes of strontium—Sr-89 and Sr-90—are among the most dangerous products of nuclear fission to human and animal health. Both are “bone-seekers,” chemically similar to calcium, that collect in bone and marrow, where they are known to cause cancer. They are particularly dangerous to the growing bones of fetuses and children. EPA does not list strontium in that system, I have learned, because it does not routinely test for strontium, even during its increased testing since the Fukushima disaster. Strontium-89 was found in April 4 Hilo samples previously found to contain cesium-134 and cesium-137, and the test results were released only yesterday because they take longer to analyze, according to EPA’s statement: In response to the Japanese nuclear power plant release, if we identify radioactive cesium… those samples will be analyzed for strontium. Testing for strontium is a complex process that takes time.”

A blunt assessment says, “Current capabilities can only handle a few radiation injuries at any one time.” That assessment, prepared by the Department of Homeland Security in 2010 and stamped “for official use only,’’ says “there is no strategy for notifying the public in real time of recommendations on shelter or evacuation priorities.”

One example: The U.S. Strategic National Stockpile stopped purchasing the best-known agent to counter radioactive iodine-induced thyroid cancer in young people, potassium iodide, about two years ago and designated the limited remaining quantities “excess,”. Despite this, the CDC Web site still lists potassium iodide as one of only four drugs in the stockpile specifically for use in radiation emergencies.

    1. seems kinda mild compared to glowing lumps of fuel being scattered over thousands of square miles (landing in kansas and honalulu, and creating hotspots and turning the skies orange)

Data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported March 13- Sept. 3, 2011, shows increasing excess deaths for nearly all regions of the US.

    http www veteranstoday com/ (2011/11/09/catastrophic-effects-of-radiation-contamination/)

    U. S. Regions With Significant Increases in Mortality Since 3/13/11

Dr. Fetzer: Please do bring us up to date on the latest results, Leuren, how serious this has become, and the kinds of hazards to health here in the United States and around the world represented by this disaster.

Leuren Moret: Well there is a very, very interesting report now based on data from the Centers for Disease Control, and at the Centers for Disease Control, which is in Atlanta, Georgia, and it is a U.S. Government agency. Every county in the United States… and in particular, they analyze data from samples all over the U.S. from 129 cities. So every county, and cities also, report data and so do the states, to the Centers for Disease Control every week. And they correct the data for changes in demographics and other factors. In other words the number of new births, the numbers of infant mortality, or deaths of babies born per 1,000 or 100,000, the causes of death, the number of deaths, and other data like that, also diseases. So based on the data that has been tallied or reported by the Centers for Disease Control, as of September 3, 2011, and beginning March 13, 2011, in that period, we have had excess unexplained deaths. This very high increase in acute deaths throughout the US, that increases every week, can only be explained by regional environmental contamination from the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan. Increases in infant mortality range from 35-45% or higher, and is not included in the map data. Source: Bobby1, “Post-Fukushima Excess Deaths in US Updated for Sept. 3”

Leuren Moret: An increased death rate in the United States, which varies by state and by region, but Centers for Disease Control has reported 34,129 excess deaths in the United States – including 129 cities, and that is basically unexplained compared to one year ago with corrections made for migration of population or other different changes. So there is no reasonable explanation for such a large and very alarming increase in death rates, which in some regions, for instance the Mountain Region, from Montana to the border of Mexico, it includes Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. They had a 9.1% increase in death rates as of September 3rd since the Fukushima disaster [as of March 13, 2011]. The radiation levels in the environment [deposition], and the increase in death rates and diseases from the radiation exposure, are based on WEATHER and on GEOGRAPHY. So in areas that are mountainous, they will have very high rainfall and rainout/snowout of radiation into the environment and so in this mountain region the death rate has increased 9.1%, or it is actually a total of 7,723 deaths in 8 states. That is almost 1,000 deaths per state [Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico].

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
