0.0084 Bq/m3 of Pu-239/240 measured from 15km offshore Fukushima plant, Tepco”within the range of past readings”

According to Tepco, Plutonium-239/240 were detected from seawater near Fukushima nuclear plant. The samples were taken May of 2013.

The locations were 15km offshore from the plant, 3km offshore from Fukushima Daini nuclear plant, reactor5, 6 discharge channel, and south discharge channel.

The samples from 15km and 3km (Daini) offshore were upper layer seawater. The data of lower layer is not published for unverified reason.

The readings are below

15km offshore : 0.0084 Bq/m3

3km offshore (Daini): 0.0059 Bq/m3

Reactor5, 6 discharge channel : 0.0081 Bq/m3

South discharge channel : 0.0089 Bq/m3

As to these readings, Tepco states they are still within the range of past measurements conducted from 2001 to 2008.

They reported exactly this below. (The sentence is not properly ending.)

Given that the density level of Pu-239+Pu-240 detected at 1F, North of Unit 5-6 Discharge Channel
and 1F, Around South Discharge Channel on May 14, 15km Offshore of Fukushima Daiichi NPS,
Upper Layer on May 2, 3km Offshore of Fukushima Daini NPS, Upper Layer on May 8 is within the
range of the past density measurements conducted along the seacoasts of 1F and 2F, it cannot be

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
