Leaked all β of “300m3 leakage accident” was also underestimated / INES level might be increased

The samples about 300m3 leakage accident was also mis-analyzed, according to Tepco. The spokesman stated in the press conference of 2/12/2014.

They found the major leakage of highly contaminated water in August of 2013. 300m3 of contaminated water was assumed to have leaked, and it possibly contained 24,000,000,000,000 Bq of β nuclide to include Strontium-90. Based on Tepco’s explanation, the wrongly analyzed data can be less than 1/10 of the actual readings. Thus the total volume of leaked all β nuclide can be over 240,000,000,000,000 Bq/m3.

In the end of August, NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) classified the accident as INES Level. 3 in addition to Level. 7 of Fukushima accident itself.

Having the fact that they underestimated the leaked volume of all β nuclide clear, it is becoming likely that Fukushima accident may be classified as Level.7 + more than 3.

En suivant les explications de Tepco, les données erronées peuvent se situer en dessous du 1/10e du réel. Donc, le volume total en radioactivité β peut avoir dépassé 240 000 000 000 000 (240 000 milliards de) Bq/m³.
A la fin août, la NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) avait classé l’accident comme étant de niveau 3 INES. Un 3 ajouté au niveau 7 de l’accident de Fukushima en lui-même.
Sur la base du fait qu’ils ont clairement sous-estimé le volume de la radioactivité β, il devient probable que l’accident de Fukushima doive être classé en 7 + plus de 3.

      The original explosions and contamination hit the limit, at a Nuclear Disaster Level-7.

      Some of the water leaks, were listed as a separate Level-3 disaster a few months ago. The continuing disclosures of MASSIVE oceanic contamination MAY lead to an increase of the separate leakage disaster level rating. Perhaps to a Level-4.

      There has been, since the beginning of the FDNPS disasters, a widespread consideration of STRETCHING the SCALE, from a Level-7 Chernobyl-like disaster to an entirely new disaster classification system level for Level-8, Level-9 and/or Level-10.

      It may be several decades before the FINAL FDNPS Disaster Level is decided by consensus.

At an ocean research station known as Station M, located 145 miles out to sea between the Californian cities of Santa Barbara and Monterey, Huffard and her colleague Ken Smith observed a sharp uptick in the amount of dead sea life drifting to the ocean floor. The masses of dead sea plankton, jellyfish, feces and other oceanic matter that typically only cover about 1 percent of the ocean floor were found to now be covering about 98 percent of it — and multiple other stations located throughout the Pacific have since reported similar figures.

    “In March 2012, less than one percent of the seafloor beneath Station M was covered in dead sea salps,” writes Carrie Arnold for National Geographic. “By July 1, more than 98 percent of it was covered in the decomposing organisms. … The major increase in activity of deep-sea life in 2011 and 2012 weren’t limit to Station M, though: Other ocean-research stations reported similar data.”

          And the California cancer rates will rise accordingly, for swimmers, beach dwellers and seafood eaters alike.

          And the chances of a biota recovery in the Pacific Ocean decline substantially. So there may not be much seafood to eat. But you can have it, because I don’t want it. It is already too hot for my plate. And it is about to get substantially hotter.

      The nuclear fallout from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) contaminated the entire Northern Hemisphere, via the Jet Stream and lower altitude wind currents, in 2011.

      The subsequent oceanic contamination has several sources, including continuing contaminated rain-runoff from Honshu Island. Also, as you mentioned there is the GREATER than 300 Tons per day of FDNPS direct, ongoing contamination from natural water flows. Then there are the Tank leaks and the deeper direct subterranean contamination flows into the Pacific, possibly due to Corium in the earth (China Syndrome).

      These water flows are MOSTLY staying in the North Pacific, but some percentage is moving toward the Arctic Ocean, Sea of Japan, Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean.

    The Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP was severely damaged in the following of the Tohoku earthquake and the tsunami on 11 March 2011. Multiple reactors reached critical conditions and released large parts of their radioactive inventory into the environment.

    The Fukushima nuclear accident allows for an exercise in source term reconstruction as its emissions are magnitudes above other sources. Therefore, also the data that are taken at downwind IMS stations report concentrations with magnitudes above the usual background. For the time series with elevated concentrations from these stations the Fukushima NPP can be handled as a single and only source.

    The total 133Xe inventory of a reactor can be in the range of a few EBq. In nonexplosion scenarios these orders of magnitudes are usually only released in accidents at nuclear facilities, as happened e.g. in Chernobyl on 26 April 1986 and Fukushima on 11 March 2011. Today’s estimations of the Chernobyl 133Xe source term are 6.5 EBq. Recent atmospheric simulations showed the total 133Xe release from Fukushima is 16:7 +/- 3:3 EBq.

    The Western Beaches will soon have increasing Salt Spray components of Strontium-90, Cesium-134 and Cesium-137; as the Fukushima Oceanic pollution arrives. This radioactive Salt Spray will decrease exponentially as one moves inland.

    The vast increases in Oceanic Tritiated Water Vapor and Tritiated Rain will travel inland a bit more freely. The mountain ranges will block most of the tritium rain. So the increased X-Ray levels will have little effect on the hinterland. So the Midwest, Southwest and Eastern Seaboard children will have a better time of it.

    The heavy rainfall areas of the West Coast like the states of Washington, Oregon and Northern California … well again, guys … we’re sorry, but you’re screwed. Do try to keep the kids inside out of the rain. And don’t drink surface water from lakes, rivers or streams. The well water should be fine. These Beta Emitter half-lifers probably won’t ever cause any widespread water-table contamination along the Left Coast.

    The question is the level that they detected and still detect is realy not dangeours or they lied and keep doing it. For anyone is not a questions America was hit by Fukushima, the concern about the dose because you can not sense the radiation, it is invisible.
    The first big fall out even Hungary detected but this amount was so so so small. The fact is every scientists agree the radiation is spreading. Question is : how is spreading and that amount and concentration that already was realies in to the enviropment and still going on are dangeours for human or for planet eart ? They dont know the answer because before such as big catastrophy never happend therefore they dont konow the side effects.

    Elevated airborne beta levels in Pacific/West Coast US States and trends in hypothyroidism among newborns after the Fukushima nuclear meltdown

    . Large amounts of fallout disseminated worldwide from the meltdowns in four reactors at the Fukushima-Dai-ichi plant in Japan beginning March 11, 2011 included radioiodine isotopes. Just days after the meltdowns, I-131 concentrations in US precipitation was measured up to 211 times above normal. Highest levels of I-131 and airborne gross beta were documented in the five US States on the Pacific Ocean. The number of congenital hypothyroid cases in these five states from March 17-December 31, 2011 was 16% greater than for the same period in 2010, compared to a 3% decline in 36 other US States (p < 0.03). The greatest divergence in these two groups (+28%) occurred in the period March 17-June 30 (p < 0.04). Further analysis, in the US and in other nations, is needed to better understand any association between iodine exposure from Fukushima-Dai-ichi and congenital hypothyroidism risk.

  13. Destruction of the Borax I Reactor released 135 MW-sec of fission energy.

    More than 200 safety experiments were made on the Borax I Reactor simulating control rod accidents. For the last test, conditions were set up so that the reactor would be run to destruction.

    The tests were carried out by withdrawing four of the five control rods far enough to make the reactor critical at a very low power level. The fifth rod was then fired from the core by means of a spring. In this test, the rod was ejected in approximately 0.2 seconds. After the control rod was ejected, an explosion took place in the reactor which carried away the control mechanism and blew out the core. At half a mile, the radiation level rose to 25 mr/hr. Personnel were evacuated for about 30 minutes.

    No one was injured and the destruction of the reactor was part of the cost of the experiment. (See TID-5360, p. 29.)

    Radioactive isotopes of cesium are a greater health concern than stable cesium. The most important exposure routes are external exposure to the radiation emitted by the radioisotope and ingestion of radioactive cesium-contaminated food sources. Dermal absorption has been observed in rats, as evidenced by traces of 137Cs in the blood a few minutes following dermal application of 137CsCl (Pendic and Milivojevic 1966), but no data were located on relative amounts and absorption rates.

    Both 137Cs and 134Cs emit beta radiation (that travels short distances and can penetrate the skin and superficial body tissues) and gamma radiation (that penetrates the entire body). The radiation dose from these radionuclides can be classified as either external (if the source is outside the body) or internal (if the source is inside the body).

    Once radioactive cesium is internalized, it is absorbed, distributed, and excreted in the same manner as stable cesium. The internal radiation dose from cesium is a measure of the amount of energy that the beta and gamma emissions deposit in tissue. The short-range beta radiation produces a localized dose while the more penetrating gamma radiation contributes to a whole body dose. Molecular damage results from the direct ionization of atoms that are encountered by beta and gamma radiation and by interactions of resulting free radicals with nearby atoms. Tissue damage results when the molecular damage is extensive and not sufficiently repaired in a timely manner.

    Since the average concentration of stable cesium in the earth’s crust is low (on average about 1 ppm) and stable cesium is used only in small quantities in electronic and energy production industries, the risk of significant exposure to stable cesium via inhalation, oral, or dermal routes is expected to be small.

    In Hiroshima, 30 days after the first atomic bomb destroyed the city and shook the world, people are still dying, mysteriously and horribly – people who were uninjured in the cataclysm – from an unknown something which I can only describe as the atomic plague.

    The police chief of Hiroshima welcomed me eagerly as the first Allied correspondent to reach the city. With the local manager of Domei, leading Japanese news agency, he drove me through or, perhaps, I should say over, the city. And he took me to hospitals where the victims of the bomb are still being treated. In these hospitals I found people who when the bomb fell, suffered absolutely no injuries, but now are dying from the uncanny after-effects . . .

    Almost every Japanese scientist has visited Hiroshima in the past three weeks to try to find a way of relieving the people’s suffering. Now they themselves have become sufferers. For the first fortnight after the bomb dropped they found they could not stay long in the fallen city. They had dizzy spells and headaches. Then minor insect bites developed into great swellings which would not heal. Their health steadily deteriorated.
    Then they found another extraordinary effect of the new terror from the skies.

    Many people had suffered only a slight cut from a falling splinter of brick or steel. They should have recovered quickly. But they did not. They developed an acute sickness. Their gums began to bleed and then they vomited blood. And finally they died. All these phenomena, they told me, were due to the radioactivity released by the atomic bomb’s explosion of the uranium atom.

    After the party passed through the wards, the doctor in charge asked Burchett to leave: ‘I can no longer guarantee your safety. These people are all marked down to die. 1 will also die. I was trained in America. 1 believed in Western civilization. I’m a Christian. But how can you Christians do what you have done here? Send some of your scientists at least. They know what this is – they must know how we can stop this terrible sickness. Do that at least. Send your scientists down quickly!’

    Health Effects of Strontium-90 – How can strontium-90 affect people’s health?

    Strontium-90 is chemically similar to calcium, and tends to deposit in bone and blood-forming tissue (bone marrow). Thus, strontium-90 is referred to as a “bone seeker.” Internal exposure to Sr-90 is linked to bone cancer, cancer of the soft tissue near the bone, and leukemia.

    Risk of cancer increases with increased exposure to Sr-90. The risk depends on the concentration of Sr-90 in the environment, and on the exposure conditions.

    What does strontium-90 do once it gets into the body?

    When people ingest Sr-90, about 70%-80% of it passes through the body. Virtually all of the remaining 20%-30% that is absorbed is deposited in the bone. About 1% is distributed among the blood volume, extracellular fluid, soft tissue, and surface of the bone, where it may stay and decay or be excreted.

    Spent Fuel Pools are considered to be a valuable commodity storage program. The plutonium, enriched uranium and fission products are considered to be an economic asset. This has NOT proven to be the case; as civilian nuclear power industry has NEVER been a competitive electrical power source. The civilian nuclear power industry is not: bankable, insurable, safe, carbon-neutral, thermodynamically efficient, renewable, sustainable and/or cost-effective.

    Any small commando (terrorist) team on earth can take control of any civilian nuclear power plant, Spent Fuel Pool, on any given day. I and/or millions of other engineers (or physicists), can quickly convert any Spent Fuel Pool into a hemispheric level (perhaps planetary level) Extinction Level Event (dirty bomb). This process would require nothing more than supplies easily available in every hardware store in any small community on earth. There are approximately 500 such Spent Fuel Pools which can not be made secure.

    That is NOT a stable, sustainable global economy or human habitat.

    Pacific Coast publications sing sirens’ songs of ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ and ‘Safe to Eat’, ‘Less Than a Banana’, ‘Absolutely Safe’, ‘Lower than EPA’ and ‘Lower than FDA’. However, these articles universally FAIL to mention a single number. Perhaps these soothing assurances can be quantified, such as:

    Example 1) ___ picocuries of cesium-134 per liter of water

    Example 2) ___ rem OR ___ mSv to a single organ (CDE)

    Example 3) 500 mrem (5 mSv) whole body (CEDE)

    The historical EPA Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), prior to 2011, was calculated based upon an assumption that the radiation level would result in no more than 1 additional cancer fatality per 1 million people. Prior to 2011, the EPA did not allow drinking water to contain more than 3 picoCuries per liter of radioactive istotopes like iodine-131 and cesium-137. I have ZERO idea what cancer fatality level is ‘acceptable’ under the ALL NEW, much higher OBAMA EPA MCL.

    The 2011 FDA averted dose standard, Protective Action Guide (PAG) for food is defined as 500 mrem (5 mSv) whole body (CEDE) or 5 rem (50 mSv) to a single organ (CDE), accepts two extra cancer fatalities in a population of 10,000. I have ZERO idea, what the present ( presumably higher) FDA standard might be.

    I similarly have ZERO notion what radionuclide concentrations and dosages are drifting toward Alaska, British Columbia, Vancouver, Washington, Oregon, California, Baja, Sonora, Obregon, Hawai’i, Guam …

    Honshu Island, NW Pacific Ocean, Islandia and the North American Coastline have received MULTIPLE radiological insults from the ongoing Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Level 7(+) Nuclear Disaster. The continuing FDNPS radiological damage to the Northern Hemisphere appears to exceed the sum of Chernobyl, TMI and the atmospheric nuclear weapon tests. A vast radiological storm, including ‘hot particles’, and comprised of α, β, Γ and neutron emitters, was unleashed from containment, onto an unprepared population. The skies of North America were painted burnt-orange with radioactive iodine and radioactive sulfur. Airborne nuclear ‘Fallout’ has given way to waterborne nuclear ‘washout’ as radioisotopes stream into the Honshu Island surface water, groundwater, as well as the Pacific Ocean.

    Several FDNPS Spent Fuel Pools sustained damage and radiological releases to the environment.

    Every operational FDNPS nuclear reactor suffered: an ultimate heat-sink failure, total (100%) meltdown, ventilation failure, complete containment failure and explosive release into the land, air and water, of fission products. The FDU-1 nuclear reactor circulation/cooling system suffered pipe failures in the earthquake, causing the 1st nuclear reactor explosion since the Level 7 Chernobyl disaster. The FDU-3 reactor explosion, produced: orange flame, supersonic detonation, black smoke, fuel vaporization and scattering as well as induced Gamma (Γ) radiation in structural metals and the concrete rubble. The FDU-3 reactor explosion was most DEFINITELY an atomic explosion; not a hydrogen and/or steam explosion.

    The FDU-3 March 14 detonation was a nuclear blast, the tawdry deceptions of TEPCO, Japan, Barack Obama, IAEA, WHO, CTBTO, nuclear contractors and the Mendacity Media notwithstanding. Their sleazy misrepresentations, dangerous omissions, outright lies, deliberate concealments and false assurances continue unabated, to this day.

    The highly QUESTIONABLE article (puff-piece) is still available, at last glance. However, it appears to be no longer INDEXED at PNAS. Perhaps these brain-dead (or lying) authors, should consider WITHDRAWING the POS. They report a Mass Die Out of Pacific Biota (an Extinction Level Event). The coincident and LIKELY causative Radioactive Contamination Insult, which is a 1st Order ‘Climate Change’, is not even mentioned. Ignorance and stupidity would appear to be unlikely, leaving scientific fraud as the most likely explanation for their published nescience. (Incompatable with Life is a significant ‘Climate Change’.) Warm Water and/or Cool Water is NOT an ELE.

    World must act to stop Fukushima nuclear discharge

    Since the severity of the issue continues, China, along with the international community, must propose the strongest opposition to the Japanese government’s irresponsible activities. At the same time, they must take positive measures to prevent pollution. Here are three suggestions.

    First, China and other neighboring countries must request the Japanese government take effective measures to stop the continuing discharge, and thus reduce the likelihood of oceanic environmental damage. The Pacific Ocean doesn’t belong to Japan, but is commonly owned by the international community, the environmental protection of which is fundamental to the safety and reproduction of human beings. Japan should ensure that not all the fiscal budget goes to military expansion and weaponry. Much should be diverted to solving the post-Fukushima horror.

    Second, radioactive sewage discharge results must be published. China and the international community should demand that Japan reveal the results of objective scientific monitoring of the 11,500 tons of radioactive discharge over the past two years, and publish its scale, damage level, as well as a prevention and cure strategy. If the discharge cannot be suspended immediately because of technical limitations, scientific evaluation and projection must be done, followed by agreed measures thereafter. A 12-expert delegation, from Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Russia and the US, was created as the Northern Pacific Radioactive Environmental Quality Assessment Group, whose job is to monitor the resolution of these issues. Chinese experts can particularly take advantage of their strength and lead the group.

    Third, regulations must be set up to limit illegal actions. Currently, the oceanic environment is facing significant damage. China and the international community will jointly set up regulations on protecting the oceanic environment from radioactive pollution, after Fukushima. TEPCO must not only compensate the loss of its domestic victims, but also provide the international community with a clear commitment. For the sake of safety, an international agreement banning shipping, fishing or even entering the highly polluted area off the coast of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station needs to be formed.

    1. The safety of the Pacific Ocean is one of the most important issues internationally. Conventional maritime security focus on ensuring maritime navigation safety, combating pirate attacks, preventing collisions and natural disaster. Now, preventing radioactive pollution becomes another issue. The polluted discharge has severe impacts on the oceanic environment; its damage is also unpredictable, and severer than an oceanic conflict or regional war. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs should negotiate with its Japanese counterpart. China’s marine authorities should communicate and negotiate with Japan’s related authorities over administrative and technical issues. And the international community should keep on pushing the Japanese government to make more progress on this problem.

    Yes indeed, friends, we have reached a moment of comedic insanity at the EPA, where those in charge of protecting the environment are hastily rewriting the definition of “radioactive contamination” in order to make sure that whatever fallout reaches the United States falls under the new limits of “safe” radiation.

    The EPA maintains a set of so-called “Protective Action Guides” (PAGs). These PAGs are being quickly revised to radically increase the allowable levels of iodine-131 (a radioactive isotope) to anywhere from 3,000 to 100,000 times the currently allowable levels.

    The group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) is all over this issue, having obtained internal emails from a FOIA requests that reveal some truly shocking revelations of the level of back-stabbing betrayal happening inside the EPA. For example, under the newly-revised PAGs, drinking just one glass of water considered “safe” by the EPA could subject you to the lifetime limit of radiation.

    “In addition,” PEER goes on to say, “it would allow long-term cleanup limits thousands of times more lax than anything EPA has ever before accepted. These new limits would cause a cancer in as much as every fourth person exposed.”

    IT was the silence that made this voyage different from all of those before it. Not the absence of sound, exactly.The wind still whipped the sails and whistled in the rigging. The waves still sloshed against the fibreglass hull. And there were plenty of other noises: muffled thuds and bumps and scrapes as the boat knocked against pieces of debris. What was missing was the cries of the seabirds which, on all previous similar voyages, had surrounded the boat. The birds were missing because the fish were missing.

    Exactly 10 years before, when Newcastle yachtsman Ivan Macfadyen had sailed exactly the same course from Melbourne to Osaka, all he’d had to do to catch a fish from the ocean between Brisbane and Japan was throw out a baited line.

    The next leg of the long voyage was from Osaka to San Francisco and for most of that trip the desolation was tinged with nauseous horror and a degree of fear. “After we left Japan, it felt as if the ocean itself was dead,” Macfadyen said. “We hardly saw any living things. We saw one whale, sort of rolling helplessly on the surface with what looked like a big tumour on its head. It was pretty sickening. “I’ve done a lot of miles on the ocean in my life and I’m used to seeing turtles, dolphins, sharks and big flurries of feeding birds. But this time, for 3000 nautical miles there was nothing alive to be seen.”

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
