Tepco mis-measured radiation, 610 Bq/m3 of Cs-134/137 detected from bypass well water in the second test

According to Tepco, 610 Bq/m3 of Cs-134/137 was measured from bypass well water. The sampling date was 4/16/2013.

Tepco was planning to discharge the water to the sea. In the negotiation with Fukushima Prefectual Federation of Fishries Co-operative Associations, they stated the pumped water doesn’t contain Cs-134/137.

On 5/30/2013, Nuclear Regulation Authority pointed out the possibility that the tested sample shields background radiation by itself to lower the test result.

From the follow-up test, they measured 220 Bq/m3 of Cs-134 and 390 Bq/m3 of Cs-137. In the first test, Cs-134/137 were lower than the lowest detectable amount.

In Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, the background level is significantly high. However, because the sample shields background radiation itself, when they deduct the background radiation level from the total reading, the test result becomes lower than actual by the shielded radiation level.

The follow-up test was conduced in Fukushima Daini and Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear plant, where the background level is relatively low.

Tepco planned to discharge the pumped water to the sea on the assumption that it is not contaminated but it is proved that bypass well water is also contaminated.

Tepco a mal relevé la radioactivité : Les deuxièmes tests révèlent qu’il y a 610 Bq/m³ de césium 134/137 dans les puits de dérivation

 

Selon Tepco, 610 Bq/m³ de Cs 134/137 ont été relevés dans l’eau des puits de dérivation. Ça date du 16 avril 2013.

Tepco prévoyait de déverser cette eau en mer. Pendant la négociation avec les associations de la Fédération Préfectorale des Coopératives de Pêche de Fukushima, ils ont affirmé que l’eau pompée ne contenait pas de césium 134/137.
Le 30 mai 2013, la Nuclear Regulation Authority a mis en avant la possibilité que les résultats de l’échantillon testé soient masqués par la radioactivité ambiante, qu’ils en soient minimisés.
Dans les tests de suivi, ils ont relevé 220 Bq/m³ de Cs 134 et 390 Bq/m³ de Cs 137. Les taux des césiums  134 et 137 étaient inférieurs au minimum détectable dans le premier test.
La radioactivité est très élevée dans la centrale nucléaire de Fukushima Daiichi. Lorsqu’ils soustraient la radioactivité ambiante du total relevé, le résultat du test devient inférieur au réel à cause de ce niveau de radioactivité ambiante, l’échantillon est masqué par la  radioactivité ambiante.
Des tests de suivi ont été faits dans les centrales de Fukushima Daini et de Kashiwazaki Kariwa où la radioactivité ambiante est relativement faible.
Tepco prévoyait de déverser l’eau pompée en mer sur l’hypothèse qu’elle n’était pas contaminée mais il est ainsi prouvé que l’eau des puits de dérivation est contaminée aussi.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
