DC rally on 9/20

I joined the DC rally from 9/20 ~ 9/22/2012.

These are the pictures taken in congressional briefing. (September 20, 2012 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm)

The location was Cannon House Office Building – Room 121 Independence Ave SW & 1st St SE Washington,DC 20024 USA

I also had a speech in Capitol Reflecting Pool (3rd St & Jefferson Drive SW Washington DC 20004).

I thought that would not be so meaningful for me to talk about hypocrisy of nuclear industry or murderous policy of Japanese government to the audience because our audience already know such things and they can read more details on the internet. (but that’s necessary.)

This is also a discrepancy unique for  this kind of the protest.

This speech therefore was for passersby on the street, beside the pool, and tourists walking around.

I emphasized the fault of media and America to appeal for larger range of people.

Nuclear, war, dysfunction of the governing system, they all share the same root. War has an aspect as a public public investment for inventory readjustment of surplus in industrial products and people. Nuclear is also a part of them. You can’t resolve only a part of this entire system. The system needs a whole renovation.

My major was economics. I was a believer of free economy.

However, I’m starting to learn capitalism and democracy are merely impractical propositions like nuclear power.

You can change politician, but can not change bureaucracy. They are the one to absorb our tax and decide where to drop it. This is where all the power / information is concentrated. and they have no feedback from their bad operating. but you can’t attack them like you can’t punch air. I find it the crucial system error of our modern society.

I don’t know what can be alternative, but I’m starting to think again, we can’t design our society.

We live in the society, but don’t even know how it is working. so I’m doing what I can do. I focused on what I can accuse in this speech.

This is the draft of my speech. I might have said something different on the stage but must be details.

Hello, Mr. Obama
I am the writer of Fukushima Diary.
This is the only Japanese source specialized in Fukushima accident written in English.
The slogan is we are against media blackout.
On 15th and 16th of March, when the biggest plume hit Tokyo, I was there working outside all day.
I can never forget my despair when I knew reactor3 possibly had a nuclear explosion.
If media and Japanese government announced meltdown was on-going, I would have evacuated sooner.

I was exposed. I was too late to evacuate. This is the concrete fact.

I might die of leukemia or cancer in the future.
but I have to say this.

I will never forgive media and the decision to save economy for the sacrifice of people’s lives in eastern Japan.

They chose slow death for the longer life of economy.

I came here to ask your help for Japan.

Immediately after 311, I understood we can never trust the government. Never.
We have to ask for your help.

America pushed nuclear energy to Japan.
I demand you America to open the country and help people.

Japanese government is planning to send disaster debris to Saipan.
Japan is still exporting fishery products to America.
Coolant system keeps being disordered.
If another earthquake hits Fukushima, it’s also the end of America.

44% of Fukushima children have thyroid nodules or cysts.
and 98% of the medicine is made in Fukushima.
Japan is a small country.
We can’t save ourselves.

For the children, please move your country.
Please move your government.
Please have them reveal all the truth and save the world.

My parents are still in Japan, and they’re sick.
I came here as a messenger.

Thank you.

Merci.

Hi, could you elaborate on what you mean by how 98% of medicines are produced in Fukushima? Does this mean that even the common cold tablets, any over the counter medications as well as prescription drugs are made in Fukushima? If so, why is it only made there? Thank you.

Great work Iori! Thank you for taking this message to the world. Sometimes I think Noda and his goons listen more to US opinion than local people. What you’re doing is very important to changing Japan.

  3. Jeff Dillon says:

A messenger, like Rosa Parks, unintentional consequence of injustice will never be silenced, and history will reveal the messenger to be the most powerful catalyst of change. The nuclear industry originated in the USA, and the USA must help all who have suffered because of the lies perpetuated by an uncontrolled industry. Helen Cauldicott, Paul Gunderson, and many more have been giving this message for thirty years. Let us become the change we seek in our world. Corporations must not be allowed to build something so dangerous. A car is dangerous, yet, it cannot kill thousands, just a few. Large nuclear power plants risk millions of lives. This simply is not acceptable. We may look like a small number, but we are a large number, seeking nothing more thanpeace, security, and life. nuclear energy is not a partisan issue. Nuclear energy is a power that is beyond discrimination. Lets work together and restrict corporations from creating deadly nightmares. The US is on the verge of a disaster, today, with 23 aging Mark I Nuclear Power plants. I can refer you to http://www.beyondnuclear.org. You can search for Helen Cauldicott on the web. You can read the nuclear page of Georgia Power, and see how these corporations lie to us. There are three lies about nuclear power. 1. It is safe. 2. It is clean. 3. It is efficient. The first lie has been answered by the film, Silkwood, by Chernoble, by Fukishima, and by the numerous near accidenta we have seen in the USA, over the last year. Lie #2 is false, only when you consider the half life of Cesium 137, plutonium, uranium, and the waste that must be transported, recycled, and stored, at our nations borders, in New Mexico, and Texas. Lie #3 requires much more thought. Do not believe what you read at face value. In the sixties, they said, Question Authority. Who tells you that nuclear power is efficient? It is a relative statement. Efficient, compared to waht? Last week, an Iowa Republican Governor and Senator, blasted Congress, specifically, their own party, for not approving an extension of the wind energy tax credit, which was innitiated under a Republican administration. The reason; One company said, nuclear power plants run 24/7 and cannot be shut ddown when there is an oversupply of electricity. Wind power is so efficient that an oversupply is created. The theory of a free market dictates price based on demand and supply. Ind generated in Iowa created an oversupply, and they could not reduce supply without choosing to shut one or the other down. One company, which owns a nuclear power plant, chose to go against wind, even though they also own a wind farm. We as a nation must decide what kind of energy we want for our futures, no the corporations. God bless the messenger of hope.

You have done SO MUCH! How do you feel? I have read this site almost from the very beginning, I watched you agonize over whether you should leave Japan, & then you did leave; I read about your health-how are you feeling lately, fine I hope.

I have only 1 suggestion for changing government: ALL candidates for office MUST submit to a total psychological profile which will be made public. Simply putting out commercials to win public office doesn’t work; people must pass tests in order to have authority to drive, they must pass tests in order to teach, in order to do almost everything-except win public office. A politician can write laws, can wipe out other laws & deeply affect everyone’s lives; there MUST be a superior method of selecting Mayors, Governors, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Senators, House Representatives, Members of Parliament, etc. A psychological profile would ferret out a tendency to be an egomaniac, a tendency to ignore facts, a tendency to be cautious, etc.

  7. Naoya Yamaguchi says:

    Well done!
If think you won’t get too far asking help with Obama. Like Bush was backed up with oil money, Obama is backed up with nuclear industry money.
    But, never stop fighting…

Soooo good to see you shining with this bright smile!

It feels good to me you physically met and exchanged with these people who have good knowledge and deep thoughts.

Each and all together, you bring light in this specific nuclear field of our world and beyond.

I pray your lights will bring along quick effects now.

Thank you and thanks to every person gathering information for decades. I did get very largely informed with your work and researches all of you. As well as many many people now.

I still meet difficulties to try getting people informed as well, but surely there will be at some point an exponential interest-understanding and global true view on the nuclear subject.

Now around me, people remember I was speaking specifically of SFP 4 since one year and begin to give me feedback. I would summerize it this way : space to talk of this is opened. Information can poor in. Go on.

I would like to suggest you put showy links to speeches of Helen Caldicott and others. So new coming people get a quick global summery to catch up a little…
