4 public schools in Yokohama city backfilled radioactive soil in school area

4 municipal schools backfilled the contaminated soil in their school area in Yokohama city.

A city councilor testified in the municipal assembly of 10/1/2014.

Since 311, 20 schools implemented decontamination to remove the contaminated soil (>0.59 μSv/h at 1cm from the ground, >0.23 μSv/h at 1m from the ground). By the end of this September, 4 municipal schools backfilled the removed contaminated soil to the ground. 16 schools are still preserving 1740 L of the soil though the highest atmospheric dose was still 0.98 μSv/h.


They state their backfilling the soil does not violate the municipal regulation, however the specific density of radioactive material is not published. Nuclide analysis result has not been announced either.

Depuis le 11-3, 20 écoles ont procédé à des décontaminations pour enlever leurs sols radioactifs (> 0,59 μSv/h à 1 cm du sol, >0,23 μSv/h à 1 m du sol). Fin septembre dernier, 4 écoles municipales ont répandu ce sol raclé sur leur sol. 16 écoles stockent toujours 1 740 L de sacs de sol raclé bien que le record de dose ambiante soit resté à 0,98 μSv/h.

Ils affirment que leur épandage radioactif ne contrevient pas à la réglementation municipale, néanmoins ils ne précisent pas la radioactivité effective des terres répandues. Leur analyse des radionucléides n’est pas communiquée non plus.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
