The water level gauge of overflowed tank was malfunctioning, and the operators were not checking the indicated abnormality either, according to Tepco.

The water level gauge of the overflowed tank wasn’t properly functioning to notify the abnormality on time. Also, the accident was happened when the pump sent the water to a wrong tank. The tank that the pump was supposed to send the water to had the sound water level gauge, but the operators were not checking the trend. The water level was supposed to increase, however it stayed still because the expected water was sent to a wrong tank due to the mis-operation of the valves.

Tepco states the operators are the subcontract workers, and they were to check the accidental decrease of water level, but not the other trends of the water level.

Having series of tanks leaking contaminated water, Tepco was actually obliged to installed the water level gauges. However some of them were malfunctioning and the sound ones were not checked properly.

Downplay it in the beginning, and quietly add more information so nobody notices it. All for not letting the cattle escape. This is their strategy.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
