Most of fuel NOT remaining in reactor1 core / Tepco “but molten fuel is stopped in the concrete base”

Related to this article.. Tepco “More fuel debris possibly melted through to reactor3 primary containment vessel than expected” [URL]

In the report mentioned in the article above, Tepco also stated most part of the fuel has been molten and dropped onto the bottom of RPV (Reactor pressure vessel) of reactor1.

They also admitted the molten fuel caused the core-concrete reaction. However they reported the decay heat must have decreased enough, the molten fuel can be assumed to remain in PCV (Primary container vessel).

The actual simulation of the decay heat wasn’t shown in their report.

I reject the international mass media to read this site without taking a contact with me.I know some of the mass media corporations read Fukushima Diary to understand the trend so they know when to report about Fukushima as if they were independently following it for a long time.
In short, they make you individual readers pay for this site while they pay nothing, and when they publish the “authorized news”, you pay for the “secondhand news”, which is nothing new for us.
This site is free for the individual readers, but not for corporations. In the world, this site is nearly the only source about Fukushima. I came here alone without any supporting organizations, background or anything. I’m not pleased to be exploited by the corporations that didn’t even properly report about Fukushima when 311 took place.

I demand them to take a contact with me BEFORE reading this site whatever the purpose is.

  1. Pipe Failure

FDU-1 was the 1st FDNPP reactor to meltdown, breach containment and fail. This premature failure was reportedly caused by a catastrophic piping failure between the Torus and nuclear reactor.

If memory serves, the design basis (i.e. weak Industry standards BullShit) failure is arbitrarily set as a SINGLE reactor feed pipe failure. So we can probably conclude that TWO or MORE of these pipes failed, DURING the 311 Earthquake. This corresponds to Fukushima Nuclear Power Station … worker reports at the time.

The FDU-1 reactor was reportedly fueled with conventional UOX. The FDU-1 reactor explosion happened the soonest after the SCRAM. Therefore the highest activity fission products were present, in the greatest proportion, at the time of that explosion, relative to FDU-2, which was the LAST reactor to blow up.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Duff

    1. Torus,

A torus is a doughnut shaped circular pipe. A torus is located below the nuclear reactor. Several water pumps are connected by large diameter pipes into the torus and several smaller diameter pipes lead from the torus to the nuclear reactor. Various valves provide some redundancy in the event of a single point failure.

      Sincerely,

      Bill Duff

      1. Human brain circulation

The nuclear reactor cooling system resembles, in form (anatomy) and function (physiology) the Circulus arteriosus cerebri or Circle of Willis.

Thomas Willis (1621-75), a doctor at Oxford and (later) London, described the arteries that form a circle at the base of the brain in his tome, ‘Cerebri Anatome’.

    2. TOTAL FAILURE,

The reported FDU-1 piping failure was directly due to the 311 earthquake, some 100 miles distant. The Great Tōhoku Earthquake (東北地方太平洋沖地震 Tōhoku-chihō Taiheiyō Oki Jishin) or (東日本大震災 Higashi nihon daishinsai) was a 9, depending on seismic scale at its epicenter, but much less severe at the FDNPP.

The FDU-1 nuclear power plant was entirely (defectively) designed and constructed by General Electric (GE).

The FDU-1 subsonic detonation was fated from the moment the reactor coolant pipes broke, and was virtually unrelated to the subsequent tsunami and primary heat sink loss.

The station blackout alone would also have caused these meltdowns.

The FDNPP ‘man-made-disaster’ was due to earthquake, tsunami and blackout; like a man that is poisoned, shot and tossed off a cliff. The nuclear station design and construction was wholly, entirely and redundantly inadequate, ‘from the get-go’. And every self-serving ‘Team Nuke’ assurance to the contrary has ALWAYS been a blatant and willful lie.

      Sincerely,

      Bill Duff

  2. Sounds like the start of a ‘confession’. Since TEPCO is unable to get into the area of discussion due to extremely high radiationm how can they make those statements? No one as been able to reach or visualize the core/concrete at or below the Reactor 1 containment vessel, the robots fail, water is filling up the area from groundwater ingress; its a deadly mess and death trap. TEPCO/Japanese government has NO CLUE where the corium is for any of the reactors of Fukushima. TEPCO knew this on 3/11 and still said the reactor was in COLD SHUTDOWN! Lies, coverups, and more lies. Thank you Lori for all your hard work to surface these reports. Stay safe!

    1. Of course they have a clue where it is. They know at least where it is not, and it is not raining down on Tokyo as a mystery black powder as bill duff suggests.

  3. Seems like they are just trickle truthing things now…releasing bits and pieces here and there…to what, “soften” the blow of what has really happened and is happening??

    1. Ask yourself why they wound do that. Look at the panic a little bit of info causes on this very blog. Every tiny bit of radiation released makes bill duff foam at the mouth and predict the nuclear apocalypse.
Tepco is not the illuminati. They know that the world is filled with idiots like bill duff who get off on exaggerating every little thing to catastrophic proportions. You can only release honest and realistic engineering information to people who can look rationally at the results, otherwise you just get an angry fearful mob ready to burn down the unfortunate victim of their witchhunt

  4. I agree JEC, as soon as I saw assumed ( presuming it’s not a translation error) I knew that they were saying…they don’t know if it’s in the concrete,or they know it’s melted through but it would be reasonable for the public to believe that they could ‘assume’ it was stuck in the concrete . Also there’s that steam that’s been rising from the ground, theraised temperature of the ocean water offshore from the powerstation and THE RISING RADIATION THAT THEY ARE MEASURING. This corium has melted through and what are they going to do about it?

  5. So its worse than what was first published, no matter who or what is said on any blod. Now what could show the scope and spread of radiation, is the banning of shellfish by China. Arensic is or can be a product of nuclear fisson as a product (MOX). Shellfish from the West Coast of USA, are banned by China due to arsenic..and other toxic poisoning. The wording is interesting, both from a health and political point. First, China has not really been on the forefront of environmental protection. Second, one has to wonder if this is a start of a Chinese economic push against both Japan (who didnt confess to the scope of the accident) and USA who has been supporting Japans media control. USA says their shellfish are safe, but has NO backing documentation to prove it as testing has not been done. So..will be interesting and sad to watch the next weeks as Japan is forced to report the facts (slowly in drips) and the USA agencies scrabble to ‘recreate’ data that was never collected. IF USA shellfish are dangerous to eat in China due to arsenic contamination (its got to be a huge ammount to cover the entire west coast of American continent!!)..its got to be unsafe to eat in USA..there is no magic line in the oceans. And if the arsenic came from Fukushima-which is the likely source..heaven help us.

    1. I think what they are getting at here is that the corium not only melted through the pedestal, but probably melted through the bottom of the pressure vessel too. This is no surprise if you look at the depressurisation of rpv in unit 1. Simulations show the corium likely fell to the concrete and burned it a bit befor the corium-concrete reaction slowed and stopped.
The reactors are still pretty hot, steam production doesn’t mean that the corium has tunneled into the groundwater.
Look at the recently released simulation data and you can see that this is just tepco admitting that the simulation is probably accurate. No need to freak out and exaggerate the situation and imagine things that are not there.

  6. Reactor 3, the one being discussed, was MOX. Just saying..it could provide the hint that the arsenic came from the plutonium/uranium used in MOX.

  7. TEPCO will never admit a melt-through. Admitting melt-through will stop all lies on the plant restoration which is impossible.
But they will have to deal with this lie later went it will be obvious.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
