From this investigation, they found the lead plate of 7.5 cm thickness was lost inside of PCV1.
They investigated around the pipe (30cm diameter) at 8.5m from the bottom of PCV1.
They opened the access hole on PCV wall, but they found the lead plate (7.5cm of thickness), which is supposed to be attached to the inside of PCV as lost.
On 3/15/2011, when 3 days had passed since its hydrogen explosion, the temperature was up to 700 ℃ inside of PCV. The fusing point of lead plate is about 327℃, it might have been melted down as well.
The investigation took 3 hours. The maximum integral dose of workers was 1.8 mSv. Tepco is planning to check inside of PCV with thermometer, camera, and equipment to take water sample again in October.
L’exploration a duré 3 heures. La dose intégrale maximale des ouvriers a été de 1,8 mSv. Tepco prévoit d’aller contrôler à nouveau en octobre l’intérieur de la PCV avec un thermomètre, une caméra, et un équipement pour échantillonner l’eau.
This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
