[Column] The new goodbye from Fukushima Diary

Note : If you are from the international mass media, Don’t read this site before taking a contact with me.

I write Fukushima Diary for the mother who thinks about what to make for the lunchbox of her son, or the father who has his daughter study in Japan.

They are worried about what is going on in Japan, and what may happen in Fukushima. Indeed 99% of the readers are those people.

It’s time to say goodbye for some other group of people.

After the mass media coverage withdraw like Tsunami, people who are really concerned and people who believe in pseudoscience, religion-ish something, political-ish something remained.

I wake up at 4am because most of the press conference starts at 10:30am in Romanian time. Write as much as I can, research as much as I can. Most of Fukushima Diary’s articles can’t be read anywhere else because I invest my life for 99% people. This is not for pseudoscience, religion-ish something, political-ish something fans.

I believe anyone should be able believe in anything, but I won’t get Fukushima Diary involved in any of them.

I have a Facebook group named “Fukushima Diary”. First of all, I decided to freeze it.

No post, no comment will be approved. It will be completely stopped as of tomorrow.

All kinds of irrelevant problems and criticisms come to me.

I post exactly the same articles HERE and my Facebook page, so it’s meaningless. I cannot take all the responsibilities about the posts and arguments. It only wastes my time to spend on writing and researching.

Ego might let you win, but it blinds you from the truth.

I won’t say a long goodbye. I’ll cut off from what I can cut off.

I reject the international mass media to read this site without taking a contact with me.I know some of the mass media corporations read Fukushima Diary to understand the trend so they know when to report about Fukushima as if they were independently following it for a long time.
In short, they make you individual readers pay for this site while they pay nothing, and when they publish the “authorized news”, you pay for the “secondhand news”, which is nothing new for us.
This site is free for the individual readers, but not for corporations. In the world, this site is nearly the only source about Fukushima. I came here alone without any supporting organizations, background or anything. I’m not pleased to be exploited by the corporations that didn’t even properly report about Fukushima when 311 took place. I demand them to take a contact with me BEFORE reading this site whatever the purpose is.

  1. I just wanted to thank you for your time and effort into publishing the articles you have about Fukushima. It has not only opened my eyes to the travesty that is affecting all of mankind, but also my friends and family.

Please know you are appreciated. I wish you luck in this crazy world, who knows what is going to happen in the next couple of weeks with TEPCO now trying to remove fuel rods.

  2. Your Fukushima Diary articles, always appearing on my wall, are invaluable. Like Diane said above, they’ve helped not only me to follow what’s going on with TEPCO in a very direct, immediate and succint way, they’ve also helped many people I know to do the same. While people initially thought I was crazy and mainly paranoid, almost all of them now acknowledge at the very least the reality of Fukushima’s dangers.

There are still people who like to argue: would a worse case scenario be the end of the Northern Hemisphere, would it be the end of Japan, of Tokyo, or just another nuclear cloud with only a local population obviously suffering, while the others will *only* experience a spike in cancers etc.?

These people will argue with the Grim Reaper whether or not his blade is sharp enough to kill them quickly or whether it will do it slowly. They will miss the point altogether even on their death bed, it’s a defense mechanism.

    Thanks for all you’re doing!

  3. The process of consensus:

The USA, like Germany, France, Switzerland and other nations, is reconsidering the civilian nuclear power industry. Regions, races, religions, States, Cities, conservatives, liberals, business owners, labor unions, political parties, age groups, investors … are moving toward a consensus.

The occasional ‘crazy’ and obstructionist are also a part of the process.

The USA is moving rapidly to reduce the civilian nuclear power plant industry. The citizenry is galvanizing against the future use of MOX fuel.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Duff

  4. Domo arigato gozaimashita Mochizuki-san!

I don’t know Japanese, I am an English speaker in British Columbia.

Your truthful way of reporting has influenced me, and i humbly thank you sir.

I do hope i can still read your articles in the future.

  5. Simplicity rules. Facebook is very high-maintenance and is an enormous drain of time and energy. Perhaps best to post on Facebook a link to this site for those Facebook users who want to continue to follow and support Fukushima Diary. You provide a unique and valuable perspective on this ongoing, worldwide crisis–Thank you!

  6. Arnie Gundersen said once if my memory serves me right,
that he hopes that they’ll muddle through with the
fuel rod removal from SFP4 without anything serious
happening. For the sake of Japan
    I hope he’s right.

  7. please continues writing! your messages are really valuable and needed for many! many many thanks for all the efforts!

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
