In Komatsu city Ishikawa, more than 10,000 earthworms found dead in a parking lot. Ishikawa prefecture is facing Japan / Korea sea.
Mr. Kobayashi is living near the parking lot. He comments he found earthworms dead in the evening of 8/5/2012. It kept increasing and now it’s scattered around in the 250 m2 of the area.
There are about 500 dead worms in the space for one car. Because 16 cars can park there, more than 10,000 worms are dead in the whole area including the passageway.
Former director of insects museum visited the place to comment it is rare to see this many worms dead at once. It’s an ordinary type of earthworm. He assumes they came from the near greenery to the parking lot for water because the ground was drought because of the intense heat and they died there.
Citizens nearby the area talks, “I haven’t seen such a thing. Is this because of the intense heat ?” or “It may increase more.”

Dans la ville de Komatsu, préfecture d’Ishikawa, plus de 10 000 vers de terre trouvés morts dans un parking. la préfecture d’Ishikawa est sur la rive de la mer de Corée.
M. Kobayashi vit près du parking. Il dit les avoir trouvés dans la soirée du 5 août 2012. C’est allé en augmentant et maintenant ça déborde autour, dans les 250 m² de la zone.
On trouve au moins 500 cadavres de vers sur l’espace d’une voiture. 16 voitures pouvant se garer là, plus de 10 000 vers sont morts à cet endroit, allées incluses.
Le précédent directeur du musée des insectes est allé sur place, il en dit qu’il est rare de voir autant de vers mourir en même temps. Il pense qu’ils proviennent de l’espace vert voisin du parking à cause de l’eau en raison de la chaleur intense et qu’ils en sont morts là.
Les gens autour témoignent, “Je n’ai jamais vu une chose pareille. C’est à cause de la chaleur ?”, “ça va encore augmenter.”

This is not unusual. When I was a child growing up on a farm in rural South Australia, we often found thousands of dead earth worms after heavy rains. The soil would become water logged and they would come to the surface for air and still drown in the puddles. Without further testing or investigation, this is not an unusual phenomena. has there been heavy rain or other means to inundate the area with water?

Strange on 9th we noticed a large number of dead earthworms on roads around Mt Miwa Askua Nara.Every body thought it highly unususal temp in low 30s not unusual for summer.
Just google animals and earthquakes and one will see a strong corelation of weird behaviors anywhere from 5 days to 5 minutes before a major earthquake! Get ready Japan

If this was china those worms would be turned into soup before the photo could be taken.
I’m assuming this statement there is a translation error?

If the heat is intense the worms would burrow deeper into the cooler earth.
I wish it was a mistranslation but actually not. He did say that.
