25,400 Bq/Kg of Cs-134/137 from cedar male flower of 2014 / The Forestry Agency “Reduced to only 10% of 2011”

In the end of this January, the Forestry Agency announced they measured 25,400 Bq/Kg from cedar male flower in Fukushima prefecture.

Every Spring, cedar pollen is blown to the densely populated area such as Tokyo. The government of Japan have tested Cesium-134/137 density of cedar male flowers in order to study the internal exposure caused by radioactive pollen since 2011. The samples are taken in Fukushima prefecture.

As result of the latest survey implemented last November, the highest density was 25,400 Bq/Kg, the second highest density was 20,500 Bq/Kg. Both of the samples were taken in Futaba county, and atmospheric dose was 3.8 〜 24.9 μSv/h.

The Forestry Agency comments this is only 10% of 2011’s reading. Actually their data show the Cs-134/137 density was 125,000 〜253,000 Bq/Kg in 2011, which is extremely high.

However, they announce the possible hourly exposure dose from radioactive pollen would have been only 0.0000215 〜 0.000192 μSv/h, which is not harmful enough.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
