Consumers who avoid agricultural products from Fukushima increased by 4.3%.

On 10/1/2014, Consumer Affairs Agency, Government of Japan published the report about harmful rumor.

The survey was conducted in the end of this August in disaster area and the main consumption area to include Tokyo and Osaka.

The result showed the public awareness on food contamination rose up since February of 2013.

The percentage of those who answered “Can’t accept even small risk” increased from 16.6% to 21.0% since 2. 2013.

On the other hand, the percentage of those who answered “Can accept the risk to an extent” decreased from 58.6% to 53.5%.

Also, the percentage of those who answered “Hesitate to buy Fukushima food for radioactive contamination” decreased from 19.4% to 15.3% until the last survey conducted this February, but it jumped up to 19.6% in this survey again.

The overall awareness risen against radioactive contamination suggests the government’s campaign “Support by eating” is failing.

In the conclusion of the report, Consumer Affairs Agency stated they need to strengthen the countermeasures against harmful rumor and improve the “correct” information transmission.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
