Tritium density of reactor2 seaside became the highest since last November / 270,000,000 Bq/m3

270,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium was measured from groundwater taken in reactor2 seaside. This is the highest reading since November 2013.


Tepco took the sample on 1/27/2014 for the first time from this boring hole.

Regarding Cesium-134/137 density, Tepco didn’t analyze because “the turbidity was too high”.


Underground trench is running around in the seaside. It retains high level of contaminated water and it’s suspected to be connected to the turbine building. It suggests the possibility that the coolant water after directly touching the molten fuel is flowing from the turbine building to this trench.

Tepco denies that this coolant water may be traveling to reactor2 seaside through the trench, but they don’t have any specific material to logically deny the possibility.

The seaside area is getting too radioactive to continue working because of contaminated groundwater. (cf, Tepco “Seaside of the reactors is getting too radioactive to work” [URL])

270 000 000 (270 millions de) Bq/m³ de tritium ont été relevés dans les eaux souterraines prises sur le côté mer du réacteur 2. C’est le record depuis novembre 2013.

Tepco a pris son tout premier échantillon le 27 janvier 2014 dans ce forage.
Concernant la radioactivité en césium 134/137, Tepco ne l’a pas analysée parce que “la turbidité était trop forte”.

La tranchée souterraine fait le tour du côté mer. Elle retient des eaux extrêmement radioactives et on la suspecte d’être en liaison avec le bâtiment de la turbine. Ça laisse penser que le liquide de refroidissement s’écoule depuis le bâtiment de la turbine dans cette tranchée après avoir été en contact avec le combustible fondu.
Tepco nie la possibilité que le liquide de refroidissement puisse rejoindre le côté mer du réacteur 2 par cette tranchée mais ils n’ont strictement aucun argument pour se justifier.

A cause des eaux souterraines extrêmement radioactives, le côté mer est en train de devenir trop radioactif pour pouvoir continuer à y travailler.  (cf. Tepco : “Le côté mer des réacteurs devient trop radioactif pour pouvoir y travailler”)

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
