Increasing groundwater is “bulging” the coastal area of Fukushima plant after building underground wall

The completed underground wall is increasing the groundwater level to crack the pavement and pushing the wall itself toward the sea, according to Tepco.

On 10/26/2015, Tepco completed the underground wall to stop groundwater flowing to the port.

It surrounds the entire coastal area of the plant for 780m long.

On 11/26/2015, Tepco announced the coastal area of the plant has started bulging because of the increasing groundwater.

From their report, the underground wall is pushed toward the sea, and also the pavement is rising to cause cracks. Rain is flowing into the crack to increase groundwater even more.

Tepco comments they are reinforcing the wall and also covering the cracks by the end of November.
