On 11/8/2013, Tepco released the photo of the latest state of reactor4 pool. It was taken on 11/5/2013.

For the question of the press why it looks so blue, Tepco’s spokesman commented they are frequently asked about that but only answered because the pool is deep.

I reject the international mass media to read this site without taking a contact with me.I know some of the mass media corporations read Fukushima Diary to understand the trend so they know when to report about Fukushima as if they were independently following it for a long time.
In short, they make you individual readers pay for this site while they pay nothing, and when they publish the “authorized news”, you pay for the “secondhand news”, which is nothing new for us.
This site is free for the individual readers, but not for corporations. In the world, this site is nearly the only source about Fukushima. I came here alone without any supporting organizations, background or anything. I’m not pleased to be exploited by the corporations that didn’t even properly report about Fukushima when 311 took place. I demand them to take a contact with me BEFORE reading this site whatever the purpose is.

  1. can anyone tell if this photo has been photoshopped.

Tepco has been caught photoshopping images before.

    I would expect more debris

    1. Tepco announced they did extensive cleaning of the large debris then vacuumed the smaller stuff. They are still worried about the even smaller stuff stuck between the rods.

    2. NOT photoshopped, IMHO

There have been recent VIDEOS of this scene by a number of media groups. Several have pointed their cameras down into the FDU-4 Spent Fuel Pool. The recent photos, video and commentary are consistent.

The water is deep, clear and blue. The radiation levels are low inside the newly constructed Spent Fuel Pool covered area. This would require a rather extreme amount of deception, to misrepresent, at this point. Possible, but not likely, even with the Mendacity-Media and TEPCO involved.

The things that are on camera, are in my estimation; ‘as they appear’.

I cannot confirm or deny fuel damage, from these photos alone. Fires were reported in the FDU-4 Spent Fuel Pool. Explosion(s) damaged the building and left the SFP teetering on the edge of collapse. The structure, to appearances and reports, now seems sound. The Spent Fuel ‘is-what-it-is’, and it necessary to move it to a ground-level common Spent Fuel Pool.

It is time to move some fuel, with extreme cautions, as the location indexing is not programmed in, as before. Damage may exist and some serious LOCAL radiation releases would occur if some zircalloy tubes are cracked and/or broken.

Hopefully TEPCO won’t do anything stupid and ‘gets lucky’.

      Sincerely,

      Bill Duff

    3. That’s about 1/4th of the SPF. If TEPCO is hiding the rest from cameras, then there’s something terribly wrong with the other 3/4ths. They may have just filled parts with concrete. Either way, TEPCO is never going to tell the truth.

      1. There’s 1439 assemblies visible in the picture. That’s about how many telco says should be in the pool.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
