[Reactor4] UPS had a fire inside

Following up this article..[Reactor4] Actual Fukushima worker “In short, it was a design error.”

On 7/5/2012, Tepco replaced the broken UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and back-up.

The failed UPS is covered with soot and dust to suggest it burnt inside though fire station didn’t recognize it to be a fire.

  1. What spent fuel pool? It went nuclear at least that was what the jnn cam showed on the 29 of june and after /then the ensuing massive fallout making geiger counters across the nation scream to this day.

  2. ?? Such small ups are used to power water pumps ? How long ? One minute ? I can’t trust this…

  3. They’re covering it up because “somebody” didn’t evacuate>tokyo.

  4. furhermore “germans will get that” running on ups means they had no “live” power, so I wonder what else didn’t have power, perhaps everything.

  5. that’s a pretty small unit, maybe 5000 watts maybe 7500 wattts?

that’s really just enough to power the control system through 1 hour outages.

    now why did it fail?

it looks dry, so i doubt any water leaked in. Perhaps it was very humid, perhaps radiation ruined the
control boards? Maybe it was just bad luck.

now why did it take so long to fix such a simple unit? That should be R&Rd in under an hour.

that it took a day tells me it may be in a high radiation zone.

    1. I really doubt it was an actual fire in that UPS. If there was fire in the cabinet, it was secondary to an arc flash, which can reach 1000’s of degrees in a small fraction of a second, and will cause plastic and rubber fittings to burn. I’m pretty sure that this damage was caused by an arc flash. The REAL question is, what caused the electrical SHORT that caused the flash in the first place?

I’ve seen a lot of this sort of damage, being a maintenance supervisor in the food service industry. Over time, rubber gaskets or seals will degrade, and condensation will form inside the cabinet. Once this starts, it’s only a matter of time until something shorts out.

  7. Per reading the comments on the following article, there is really nothing that can be done. I don’t mean to sound dismal….so please forgive me. Since the corrupted US and Japan government and Corporate-Owned US news isn’t doing their job, I commend all the heroes, including the owner of this site, who are doing that job for us. I will make a donation today for those efforts.

  8. From the beginning – Nuclear is one big design errror. Thee world is not safe with nuclear. We are idiots for having allowed and paid into nuclear energy. Atoms for peace, yah right. Better to evacuate now than to die young. t the very elast get the children out. They don’t deserve to be held captive by idiots.

  9. That UPS appears to be a Hitachi Hiverter-55. Those are available in 1 – 8kVA variants. 8kVA is certainly enough to power some servers. But a water circulation system? WTF

      1. I started putting together a soup recipe that according to the ingredients natural effects would most likely help:

1.) Heavy metals from staying in the body
        2.) Excreting toxins
        3.) Radiation sickness
4.) Heart problems associated with radiation and high blood pressure / high cholesterol
5.) Problems associated with malfunctioning glands (thyroid / pituitary)

        HERE IS THE RECIPE_________________________________________________________

        The main ingredients are mostly spices;
        black pepper
        chili powder
        cayenne pepper
        Lemon juice

        Most Importantly for health:
        Cilantro
        Turmeric
        Puree’d Tomatoes

All you have to do is add vegitables and season with ingredients to flavor.
It comes out very similar to Tortilla Soup.

This soup will also defend against many diseases such as:
        Type 2 Diabetes
        Digestive problems / Diseases
        Malfunctioning Glands and Organs
        HEART DISEASE

The most important thing we need right now is Iodine to prevent our Thyroid glands from absorbing radioactive iodine. When radioactive iodine is absorbed it causes cancer and gland malfunctions.

AVOID: REFINED SUGAR, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SURUP, PHOSPHORIC ACID, FLUORIDE,
PUFA’S, MEAT GLUE (aka blood coagulant), AND ANYTHING MICROWAVED…don’t ask.

If you want to live long you have to eat good.

        KAIZEN!

        1. tx4the soup, I’mma try it and if I like it I will eat it every day w crackers.

  10. Looks like one of the thunderstorms made a lightning hit on the power structure of the pumps. The previous unexplained fire in the pump-mounted electrical box from weeks ago also looked like a lightning hit. All these cables must be just laying out on the ground or tied off to the destroyed infrastructure of the tentings.

    How awful…built to fail.
Crimp connectors on the most important electrical connections on Earth?

  11. I’ve seen this kind of damage and soot from a component or wire vaporising.

This can happen in an instant and have no flame at all.

Either way it stops the device working.

  12. I see what the initial problem was…

    Shoulda used a Toshiba.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
