Reactor4 takes 3 more days to fix-Backup was stopped too

Following up this article..Burnt motor of coolant system for reactor4

Tepco found a problem of insulation with the back up pump, they stopped it in the morning of 6/5/2012 as well.

Tepco states they will fix it within 6/6 2012, but  Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency commets it will take 3 days to fix.

Ms. Tanioka, a Democratic Party member of the House of Councilors tweeted like these below,

Talked to NISA about the coolant system of reactor4. Here is the report..on 6/4 the pump to connect the first cooling circulation and the second cooling circulation alarmed to stop, they found burnt mark on the termina of motor and cable. To fix this circulation (A), they turned on the back up circulation (B).

(Tanioka removed only this tweet. This tweet is the most important.)

They checked the back up circulation (B) just in case, then they found the weakness of insulation between the motor and cable as well. They could see the metal part through the insulation part. For the risk of short circuit, they stopped (B) to fix as well. They estimate 3 days to fix.

The coolant system of reactor4 is stopped at this moment. The temperature of water is 35℃. They assume it increases by 0.3℃ hourly. It will be about 57℃ in 3 days. The safety regulation is 65℃. NISA explains, it’s simple work, it won’t take longer than 3 days.

NISA explained the reason of these troubles is because the coolant system is improvised preparation. They plan to replace them with better preparation. For the question that reactor 1 ~3 have the same risk. they did not deny the possibility. This is something to concern. I will keep my eyes on it.

At 11:00 6/6/2012, the temperature of SFP4 is already 40℃.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
