Rain brings radiation back

From 3:00 to 9:00 and 11:00 on 5/3/2012 (JST), radiation level picked up in eastern part of Kanagawa prefecture.

Rain clouds passed above Kanagawa prefecture. Rain is assumed to raise the radiation level.

5/3 午前3時から9時そして11時に神奈川県東部で放射線量が上昇しました。

この時間帯に雨雲が通過したことが確認されており、雨と線量上昇の関連性が推測されます。

  1. I’m wondering if any of these increased readings of late might be related to construction underway at Chernobyl. If anyone has data from places upwind of Japan (China) the source of the Iodine and the higher radiation levels in general might become more clear.

Other questions to ponder: 8 days is only the half life of Cesium 131. How much would you have to start with to have these levels left over after 14 months?

Can we link any of this to the burning of Tohoku’s contaminated waste? Some ideas – do the spikes and high readings occur only downwind of the plants burning the debris? Or are they being picked up also at cities that have refused debris and are not affected much by winds blowing over plants in other cities/

Do the local spikes in places like Shinagawa, Kanagawa and Adachi coincide with burn times of debris? I notice the spikes seem to happen at night, but I have to admit that I am not watching closely for patterns. Are they burning the tohonku debris at night? Is there a correlation?

Why did SPEEDI data yesterday show a prolonged 150% increase in radiation in Kanagawa, while nearby Yokoska’s readings remained closer to what Kanagawa usually gets? Was there something else happening in Kanagawa yesterday? Debris burn?

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
