JMA suddenly launched prompt news service of volcanic eruption

On 7/28/2015, JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) announced they are going to launch a new service to provide prompt news on volcanic eruption.

It will be in operation from 14:00 of 8/4/2015 (JST). The service covers 47 volcanos in Japan. Eruption news will be distributed to TV, Radio and mobile phone etc within 5 minutes after the eruption.

JMA comments the eruption of Otakesan-mountain is in the background of starting this service. (cf, Volcano erupted in the central Japan / Over 10 people cardiopulmonary arrest, still 43 missing [URL])  They state it can be too late to evacuate if we wait for the official information. It would be better to escape immediately once we find abnormality such as volcanic fumes, brontides and volcanic gas. However, all of these abnormalities have been repeatedly observed in Mt. Hakone and they still try to avoid using the term of “eruption” for harmful rumor for sightseeing industry. (cf, Mt. Hakone erupted /JMA “It shouldn’t be called eruption or it’d inflame public anxiety” /Only 80km from Tokyo [URL 2])

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
