Japan budgets 22 billion yen to increase food export / 14 times much as 2012

Japanese government’s budget on food export is rapidly increasing since 2012.

Japanese government budgets 22 billion yen to increase Japanese food export for fiscal 2014, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Japanese government aims to double the food export by 2020. They are investing to promote food from and made in Japan collaborating with “Cool Japan”.

The budget includes the exhibition cost of 1.1 billion yen for EXPO Milan.

From the research of Fukushima Diary, this budget to increase Japanese food export has been skyrocketing since 2012 (The graph above).

In order to “restore” the credibility and “brand” of Japanese food damaged by Fukushima accident, the government of Japan budgeted 1.5 billion yen in 2012. It jumped up to 11 billion yen in 2013.

By 2014, it’s already increased by 14 times since 2012.

  1. Japanese Food Adventures

Sounds like juggling hand grenades, cobras and Irukandji jellyfish.

    Like Russian Roulette, IMHPO

  2. Low reliability

Japanese Radioactive Fallout Contamination tests are usually wrong. They are also generally lower than independent 3rd party measurements. The Japanese danger assessments are not even in the ballpark.

Japanese food should probably be exported to the Sun, for added fuel.

  3. Gallows Humor

Japanese children joke about dropping ‘atomic bombs’ when they go to the toilet. Japanese excrement contains measurable Fukushima radionuclides.

    Not a funny joke.

  4. The influenza epidemic of 1918 killed 20-40 million people worldwide. How did the children of the time react to this? They made a rhyme to skip rope to:

    I had a little bird,
    Its name was Enza.
    I opened the window,
    And in-flu-enza.

  5. where are the doubters…usually they are loud…
My aunt died n the 1918 flu epidemic..my family has kept the story alive..she was only 18 years old.

Naill where are you on THIS topic?

    1. Which topic, flu, or fukushima food? If it’s the latter, I wouldn’t touch the stuff. Jap government and tepco have disgraced themselves with a campaign of lies and understatements. I’d expect the food is mostly harmless and the governments shameful actions have damaged exports more than fear of radiation. Food is probably fine but since you can’t trust them, I’d just buy food originating somewhere else. Pouring money into a propaganda campaign rather than cleanup doesn’t fool me. But article didn’t really say what the money was for. Possibly subsidising farmers who grow unsellable food? Who knows. Who cares, I didn’t eat food from fukushima previously so it makes no difference to me. If it was my tax money being spent I’d have a big sign calling for the politicians to be publically hanged.

  6. Booming photography bidness

We have LOTS of family photos taken during that plague. The family wanted pictures, while they were healthy, to remember them, after they were dead.

Some survived, some didn’t. We have the photos and the obits.

Kind of like living in Fukushima Prefecture, I suppose.

    1. Sure, except that the plague killed lots ofepeople, and fukushima just caused a few cancer cases. Don’t forget the tsunami and earthquake kilned 150,000 which makes the direst fukushima death toll predictiens rather trivial. Unless its you doing the math.

            1. Are you aware of the redefinition of the term “cancer” in at least the US?

Will there only be a few cancer cases within a few years from now? At least officially.

                1. Sure, but so far, the ‘catastrophy’ is pretty minor, compared to, say, the tsunami, car accidents, tobacco, alcohol related accidents, and people being kicked to death by donkeys. A surprising number of people get kicked to death by donkeys. For more meaningful comparisons, I encourage you to compare the fukushima death toll (current, and predicted) with the deaths involved in coal mining, weighted by kilowatt hours of energy produced.

                  1. Well a lack of complete &/or credible data is a problem with trying to even do a meaningful comparison.
inEPTCO for instance, doesn’t count deaths after hours, etc.
What was that new definition of cancer again?

  7. If you take contaminated rice and mix it up with enough uncontaminated rice you can get the Bq/Kg count below any arbitrary standard. Problem solved! Fukushima Cesium coming to a supermarket shelf near you.

    1. Would you consume food from a dollar store now?
If they do this with human food, you can be damnsure they do worse with pet food.

      1. Dont eat your pets then. You can take the same argument for carbon monoxide poisoning… suck on your car tailpipe for a few minutes and see how you feel.. yet you still drive around with that same gas pouring into the air you breathe. Its diluting poisons to levels where the body can handle it. Not the best, but hardly an extinction level event either.

        1. Quote: “The authors report two suicides that resulted from the intentional inhalation of automobile exhaust gases in which death occurred without the formation of physiologically significant amounts of carboxyhemoglobin. These circumstances are correlated with measurements of the involved vehicles’ exhaust gases, which showed reduced concentrations of carbon monoxide present, reflecting improvements in automobile engine technology. In the absence of carbon monoxide toxicity, the authors attribute death in these cases to asphyxia caused by carbon dioxide intoxication and diminished atmospheric oxygen concentrations.”

          . http ://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12040253

Carbon Monoxide is generally produced due to incomplete combustion in the engine cylinder(s), BTW.

Anyway, perhaps now buying food from the cheapest supplier may be filed in the thick folder of CAVEAT EMPTOR!

          1. Copy-pasting text, barely on topic, unclear argument, tangental ‘evidence’, mangled links and inappropriate use of capital letters… you sure you aren’t Bill Duff?

            1. Well go ahead and attack the argument, not the person – i challenge you to do so, or have you caught “ad-homenimitis”?

              Careful, that could be contageous!

              1. I’ll do a Bill Duff, ignore the argument, and post something else instead. Something I copy and paste from wikipedia or some conspiracy theory website.

  8. No thanks

I would not eat a plate of Fukushima Food for 22 billion yen.

    Privation is a better option.

    Starvation is a wash.

  9. The American version of Kobe (Wagyu) beef

    http ://www.nbcnews.com/id/10642546/ns/business-us_business/t/american-kobe-style-beef-replaces-real-thing/#.U6bKe7HHvOc

The American version of Kobe beef comes from the same breed of cattle raised in Japan. Called Wagyu, a Japanese name that means “Japanese cattle,” they began arriving in the United States in the 1990s, often aboard airplanes. They are fattened for much longer than the average American breed — they live about 26 to 32 months, compared to 18 months for U.S. beef cattle. U.S. ranchers often crossbreed them with Angus cattle.

The beef they produce is considered better than prime — the highest grade given by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Prime is for meat that is abundantly marbled with fat. Restaurants and hotels get most of the country’s prime beef; only a small amount is sold in supermarkets. Texas cattleman Gary Yamamoto says at least 97 percent of his Kobe-style Wagyu beef is prime. Nationwide, only about 2 percent of beef earns a prime rating.

The glossy black cows and calves grazing on Yamamoto’s gently rolling hills look like any other beef cows. It’s hard to tell the full-blood Wagyu cattle apart from Angus cows that Yamamoto uses for crossbreeding. He started with a small herd, 88 cows and 10 bulls, bought from a Japanese rancher. The rancher, Shogo Takeda, had flown them to the U.S. so he could sell embryos and calves more easily to Australia, another country where Kobe-style beef is flourishing. Yamamoto wound up buying the entire herd in 1999; Takeda still advises him and visits his ranch, which is about 55 miles southeast of Dallas.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
