INES classification of Fukushima accident may increase from Level 7 + 3 due to the revelation of wrong analysis

INES (International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale) classification about Fukushima accident may be raised from Level. 7 +3.

Having experienced 300m3 of leakage from a tank area, NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) classified the accident as INES Level.3 adding to the original Level.7 with the approval of IAEA.

 

However last week Tepco admitted Strontium-90 analysis had been wrong from 311 to October of 2013. (cf, Tepco “Analysis data is checked by someone in charge before publishing” [URL 2]) Especially the highly contaminated samples were mis-analyzed and the readings were underestimated.

Currently Tepco hasn’t even announced when they complete the correction of the past analysis, but if the contamination density of leaked water is increased after the correction, it may even increase the classification from Level 7 + 3.

La classification INES (International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale) de l’accident de Fukushima pourrait être montée à 7 +3.
La NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) avait classé l’accident comme INES niveau 3 en plus du niveau original de 7 et avec l’accord de l’AIEA après avoir connu la fuite des 300 m³ dans une zone de citernes.

Or, la semaine dernière Tepco a reconnu que ses analyses du strontium 90 étaient fausses entre mars 2011 et octobre 2013 (cf. Tepco : “Les résultats des analyses sont contrôlées par quelqu’un chargé de voir s’ils sont publiables”]). En particulier, les échantillons extrêmement radioactifs ont mal été analysés et les résultats ont été sous-estimés.
Pour le moment Tepco n’a pas encore annoncé quand ils auront fini leurs corrections des analyses passées mais si la radioactivité de l’eau de la fuite augmente après correction, ça pourrait même faire passer la classification en niveau 7 + 3.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
