Highly contaminated water possibly leaking from reactor2 building to underground trench

The highly contaminated water retained in reactor2 basement is possibly leaking to the underground trench of the seaside, NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) stated in a working group of 1/24/2014.

 

The underground trench is known to retain high level of contaminated water in the seaside of reactor2 and 3. Tepco has been trying to reduce the density by using the mobile purifier since last November.

However, Cesium-134/137 density of reactor2 side didn’t decrease more than by 85%, where it decreased by 96.6% in reactor3 side.

The committee of the working group pointed out the possibility that the high level of contaminated water is continuously leaking to the underground trench of seaside.

 

All β nuclide (including Strontium-90) density is rapidly increasing in a part of the seaside of reactor2. There is a possibility that the vessel coolant water is directly leaking to underground beside the sea.

La NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority) a affirmé au cours d’une réunion de travail du 24 janvier 2014 que des eaux extrêmement radioactives retenues dans les fondations du bâtiment du réacteur 2 s’écoulent sans doute dans la canalisation souterraine du côté mer.

Cette tranchée souterraine est connue pour retenir des eaux extrêmement radioactives sur le côté mer des réacteurs 2 et 3. Tepco a essayé d’en réduire la radioactivité en utilisant un purificateur mobile depuis novembre dernier.
Néanmoins, la radioactivité en césium 134/137 sur le côté du réacteur 2 n’a pas diminué plus que 85 % alors qu’elle est descendue de 96,6 % sur celui du réacteur 3.
La coordination du groupe de travail a mis en avant qu’il est probable que les eaux extrêmement radioactives s’écoulent en continu dans la canalisation souterraine du côté mer.

La radioactivité β (dont le strontium 90) augmente rapidement sur une partie du côté mer du réacteur 2. Il est possible que le liquide de refroidissement de l’enceinte fuie directement en sous-sol à côté de la mer.

Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
