[Hashimoto] ‘You have no fundamental human rights’

This is not directly related to Fukushima, but because it is important to know how fascism is rising in Japan, I post this.

Osaka Mayor Hashimoto: ‘You have no fundamental human rights’

OSAKA —
Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto, who recently clashed with city employees and human rights lawyers over his “tattoo inquisition,” has disturbed commentators again this week with his comments about human rights and personal privacy.

At a meeting attended by 22 newly appointed ward mayors in Osaka on Monday, Hashimoto reportedly told attendees, “I want you to consider your lifestyle and behavior differently now than before you became a public servant,” TV Asahi reported.

“I want each of you to see yourself as a person who now has no personal privacy and no fundamental human rights. I won’t investigate what you did before you became a public servant; the battle begins once you take on the position,” he told the successful applicants, TV Asahi reported.

The ward mayors are due to take office in August.

  1. ???, If you don’t have human rights in JAPAN, then there is no reason for humans to live there, unless they want to experience having no human rights, hmm, try not having human rights for a while as an experiment yourself to fully appreciate. To experience not having human rights will make one insane. I am not kidding. /Also to not have human rights is to be classed/judged as not human, an animal essentially, so in truth of this circular argument, those who RECIND HUMAN RIGHTS do not have any either. This will get ugly.

  2. This is happening all over the world. The US is probably worse than in Japan (at least in Japan they don’t ban protesting yet, and the police don’t appear to be using military weapons, yet). The irony is that no king or appointed leader can ever give us rights, because we are human beings that have rights that we have never given away to those in authority in the first place.

    1. On a personal note, I myself experienced the loss my human rights, and you become insane because you are no longer human, everyone else may be, just not you/and others who have lost their human rights. They can be taken away, they can.

  3. As a side note, I don’t believe in human rights that come with simply birth.
Someone made that up some time ago.

Rights come with duties and with fulfilling your duties come privilages.

But that guy is at best a crawling fascist, when you are a pubic servant and fulfill your duties, then you have your rights and your privilages.

At worst he is some kind of psychopathic control freak and should be removed from office immediately.

  5. Is this being taken perhaps differently than was intended?

Perhaps the statement reflects only an expectation of personal responsibility for their actions in those positions.

Poor word choice if that is the case, indeed, but it would be a proper sentiment spoken on the public’s behalf were it to have been worded more appropriately.

    1. I agree that there is something about the wording, I don’t really know enough about it to make a fair judgement but there is something about the words maybe its just rather bias on behalf of the writer, not that theres anything wrong with that, just for myself personally I think words can be twisted no matter how careful you can be, maybe his actions can either prove or disprove anybodys bias they may or may not have.

  6. You may not like what Hashimoto said but he is correct. It is now, and has always been, a universal truth that anyone in service to their community or nation has virtually no rights. When you serve you are the servant of all and are required to be obedient and follow orders, even life threatening ones, such as jumping up out of the trench you are in and running across an open field at the enemy firing machine guns at you.
A fireman risks his life and is paid to go into burning buildings to search for people in side, even though he is being placed in mortal danger himself. And that fireman would lose his job and possibly go to prison if he refused to do that and someone died in that building as a result. And would you defend that fireman if he let someone die because he was afraid for his own safety? No reasonable person would.
When you put on a uniform you serve, you may not understand or like what you are required to do, but in every village, city and state on this planet, it is the only way to ensure our continuation as a people.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
