Edano, Minister of Economy, “Nuclear Spent fuel should be stocked in Tokyo and other big city areas”

The entire spent fuel pools in Japan will be completely full within 6 years from now. (cf. Rokkasho reprocessing plant, “If JP Gov abandons fuel reprocessing, we’ll send back spent fuel”)

In his latest book, Edano, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry commentes like this below

<Translate>
It’s rational for big cities such as Tokyo to accept nuclear spent fuel (in dry cask storage) because they have been having the benefit from nuclear power.

(cf. Rokkasho reprocessing plant, “If JP Gov abandons fuel reprocessing, we’ll send back spent fuel”)

<ترجمة>

Edano, Ministro dell’Economia: “Il combustibile nucleare usato dovrebbe essere immagazzinato a Tokyo e nelle altre grandi città”

Le SFP giapponesi saranno completamente piene entro i prossimi 6 anni. (cf. <link>Rokkasho reprocessing plant, “If JP Gov abandons fuel reprocessing, we’ll send back spent fuel”</link>).
<Traduzione>

<Traduction>

    1. I hope Mr Edano is going to personally remove the casks and store them at his house. Hopefully his local electors can then explain to him what the problem is, and his family can convince him its not a good idea.
      Is Japanese politics a cartoon TV series?

  1. This is wrong on so many levels, I could scream. Please forgive me for multiple posts – I may feel compelled to come back and add more later.

    First, F&@# you Edano!

    There I feel a little better.

    Second, this is a Book? Is there nobody close to this man who is brave enough to tell him that he is being an idiot? or has he surrounded himself with people who are even stupider than him? Someone needs to monitor what this guy writes!

    Third, the people in the cities have had NO VOICE in how their energy was produced. Even now, after the triple meltdowns at Fukushima, when many many people WANT a voice, it’s pricks like Edano who prevent referendums or any sort of popular vote on this very important matter. AND the people of the cities have NOT benefited from cheap energy. The people who operate power plants and prevent the adoption of clean renewables have benefited, not that I would advise storing the waste under a Toyota factory – the WORKERS would be the victims of such a scheme and THEY too had no voice.

    Fourth, it is absolute foolishness to put the most dangerous waste in places where it can pose potential harm to a large number of people. Put it somewhere that, if something does go wrong, it will hurt fewer people.

    Fifth, do you understand that putting a dangerous substance in the middle of a population center makes it a much more attractive target for terrorists, or for enemy bombs in the time of war – Edano will have done half their job for them – bringing the most lethal killing material into the population center. They would only need to find a way to release it.

    Sixth, anyone with even a little knowledge of the subject would know that to store something for tens of thousands of years, you really want a place that is geologically stable. Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya don’t come to mind when you talk about geologically stable.

    Seventh, this is an imposition on FUTURE generations much more than on the current generation or even the generation that build the f@%&ing reactors in the first place.

    Sorry. EDA NO! EDA NO! EDA NO!

    Will you people PLEASE vote this idiot out of office?

  2. And how long exactly are these containers good for? I’ll bet he doesn’t want to answer that question – why – because it’s not long enough, that’s why. That stuff will still be radioactive when the container turns to dust. I do believe a lot of the Japanese politicians ARE criminals – literally!
    I hate to say it but I think the Japanese people need to revolt and take over themselves.

  3. send this guy to the best psychiatrist in the world, i truly believe this guy is crazy!!

  4. Wow, I thought this guy Edano just said he wanted to shut down the industry. Now he is insane again. Go figure. Japan is such a paradox. So much of their tradition is solid and beautiful, and yet lookit how they have wound themselves up. Stuff like what Edano is saying, maybe it is from the mercury in the sashimi, it’s pathological.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
