[Column] As long as you try to be like someone else, you can’t be anyone

There is a mansion near my apartment and I see a little boy study beside the window.
I’ve seen his parents stand on both sides of him to teach something to him. He looks like 9 or 10 years old.

He reminded me of when I was in elementary school. In order to pass the entrance test of a private junior high school, I studied hard.

I was thinking I could be anyone if I studied hard.
After passing the entrance test, I wanted to be a rock star, movie star, Larry Page and imaginary everything.

As I experienced a lot of the things, especially after 311, I got to think I can’t be anyone if I try to be someone else.
There’s nothing I can do when I try to look cool.

I learnt nothing can be done if I grudge my energy for something else.

All those “cool” people also look cool because they devoted 100% of themselves.

“Study” was torturing and I hardly remember anything I learnt from textbooks.
However I remember I made a lot of the mistakes and I was actually wrong.

I think that’s what we study for when we are young. We make mistakes. We are not right all the time.
This is the fact that we all must be aware of all the time.
After graduation, we don’t read textbook, we must think about everything by ourselves.
Every time we make some decision, probably there is something like the “correct answer”.

We must think all logically, not emotionally, not impulsively, not like “everyone else”.

The difference from when we are in school is everyone is in the different shoes.
I have a different trait from you, I’m in the different situation from you.. so the correct answer differs from person to person.

This is why we can never do anything if we try to think and act like somebody else.

The strange atmosphere is covering Japanese society and being different from the majority is “uncool”. If you are stuck in there, I would like you to remember, you can’t go anywhere if you try to look cool.

About this site

This website updates the latest news about the Fukushima nuclear plant and also archives the past news from 2011. Because it's always updated and added live, articles, categories and the tags are not necessarily fitted in the latest format.
I am the writer of this website. About page remains in 2014. This is because my memory about 311 was clearer than now, 2023, and I think it can have a historical value. Now I'm living in Romania with 3 cats as an independent data scientist.
Actually, nothing has progressed in the plant since 2011. We still don't even know what is going on inside. They must keep cooling the crippled reactors by water, but additionally groundwater keeps flowing into the reactor buildings from the broken parts. This is why highly contaminated water is always produced more than it can circulate. Tepco is planning to officially discharge this water to the Pacific but Tritium is still remaining in it. They dilute this with seawater so that it is legally safe, but scientifically the same amount of radioactive tritium is contained. They say it is safe to discharge, but none of them have drunk it.
